Help!!! I have a question for anyone who may experience my problem. I have a 06 Attack, also and 05 Venture to boot. My ears are relatively sensitive to noise. I always wear ear plugs to help, but after a ride, (long one) my head just rings. Noise is generated from the track/skid and exhaust. This is a stock sled. Yes, please don't tell me to adjust the tension, side to side, etc. This sled is in perfect condition with about 8000 miles on it. All from me. This problem started from day one. Same with the Venture, although a different frequency for it.
Also, I know the muffler is louder than the preceding year. For me, yuck, I want it quiet. My days of loud stuff is over. After a 200 mile day, the noise just is too much.
Last, this sled is a absolute hog in thicker lake snow. It just sinks. The venture does superior crossing a lake. I know it has a slightly longer track, but I simply don't buy the fact that 120 extra square inches makes that much difference. Perhaps does the approach angle shallower on the Venture? It appears such. Hmmmmmmmm.
My brother just bought a Ski Doo Renegade. (Hold the comments please
). Here is the interesting thing to me. His skid, and noise from it are dead quiet. Why?
So here are the questions I have:
1. Does anyone else out there experience the same thing and is there anything you have done to help?
2. Does the Timberline skid make noise like this, or is it a 'quiet' skid.
3. Has anyone switched a 4 cylinder muffler to the 3 cylinder muffler? Why or why not can I do this. (I manufacture airplanes so I am aware of custom metal fabrication). The muffler on it is quite throaty. I sounds very cool, but like I say, I am not hear anymore to turn heads, just quiet please.
4. Cures for the lack of off trail heavier snow digging in?
I love the sled, but am considering trading to a Nytro just for the noise first, then the boon docking abilities. I will throw some money into it, but not if it will not solve the primary problems.
Thanks for any input guys and gals!

Some tunnel noise could be loose protectors. Mine worked loose and made an annoying vibration noise. Someone worked on the transfer rod clunking with some O-rings or something.

Hey I know about the tunnel protectors as they did work loose. They do make a real rattling noise.
The noise I am referring too is a design flaw/problem. I wonder if mountain skids like the Timbersled, or just stock mountain skids offered on mountain machines from the factory are quieter due to the angle from the drivers to the point of contact at the front of the skid. The majority of the noise is generated right under the front of the tunnel and varies with speed.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.................perplexing

If you search here you will find numerous posts on the skid/track/exhaust noise. There are many theories and many things attempted to fix it.
In general there is no true perfect fix. I installed a 1" Predator track with 144 1" studs on my 07 RTX and the droning sound is gone. Other's have found other fixes.
One common "improvement" that really makes a big difference is to install a new set of slides. Unfortunately this is only a temporary fix and these slides tend to wear down very quickly at first so the noise tends to come back quickly after this fix.
If you search you'll find one huge thread with 100's of posts discussing this issue. Reading it will give you the best information I am aware of about this problem, but it won't guarantee a quick or cheap fix...
Good luck.
