running a alpine kit w garret28rs,did a leak down test and sprayed entire system down w soapy water, noticed alot of bubbles around the back of the impeller housing, where the back plate bolts to the housing, not at the snapring, anyone know if there is a seal there?

If it is an older 28RS then yes, there is an o-ring seal. If it is a newer 28 series (ex. 2860) then no, there is no o-ring.

If your's is o-ringed and you need to replace it make sure you put an orange o-ring back in. They're made for high-temp applications; a black o-ring would eventually fail.

Mine leaks like a siv around the ring that the snap ring sits in.Should I put a dab of high temp silicone on the sealing surface or just leave it there is no oring on mine.

replaced the oring and did a leak down, huge leak around the circular plate on the back of the t housing, took teds advise and siliconed the plate and bolt heads, aired it up 20 pds no leaks, making big boost again :jump:

i repaced the oring w new ,the turbo still was leaking air, but from the steel ring on the back of the turbo housing, remove the impeller housing and look at the back of the housing, see the metal ring , under the bolts ,remove the bolts and pry that ring off, not sure what turbo you have, mine is a garret28rs,i sealed that ring on w high temp slicone[ thanks ted] pressurized and no more leaks.

Yep took that ring off thats where mine was leaking Ill put a dab of silicone on it.Only o-ring i have is the one that is on the wheel itself but I dont think its leaking and it is black.Mine was the 28rs too.
