I just picked up Ulmers trail package #8 on a impulse buy. Just curious what people think of the Excell exhaust and his clutch kit. The package also comes with K&N Filters, new spark plugs, and a Dyno PC5 fuel programmer with software. My buddy just bought a new Apex SE and I was just hoping to keep up with his sled for a bit. What can I expect from this setup? It claims about 10 hp. I was already running a Schmidt Brothers stage 2 clutch kit so curious if the change will be noticeable. I know, I probably should have asked this before I bought it but like I said....it was an impulse buy! Finally, are the KN Filters difficutl to install? I've never had that part of the sled torn down.

I think you will like it, everything from ulmer is top notch! when he says it will gain 10 hp it will, he has dyno'ed all of the setups he has so there is paper to back it up... I have bought a clutch kit, k&n's, pc5 w/autotune and a vector header all from him and there is a huge difference compared to just my homebrew clutch setup. and it all comes from him preloaded with his recipies already so its just plug and play!

corner to corner trail racing you should be able to keep up, unless he is doing some aftermarket things to his also. and apex has a top end that the nytro will never be able to keep up with, so you should not try to race him across a lake or open field.

the k&n's are a pretty straight forward install and ulmer has step by step directions on his web page also.

the air box can be a slight pain to remove but if you remove the fuel tank first it is easier to get at it from the back side, once the original box is off the k&n's are pretty straight forward and easy to do.

What will you be doing with your schmidt bro's clutch set up?

I'll be running the same setup and I'm excited to see how it runs. My sled already came with the full Excell kit and I like the sound alot. Can't speak for performance though because I never rode it stock. I haven't heard anything bad about Excell, my only complaint is the top plastic behind the seat is really close (1/4") from the pipe when installed, and it melted a bit. I've trimmed the plastic back but Excell also offers an aftermarket peice to replace it that works with their muffler.

I have the same set-up (filters, exhaust, PC5), and my sled turns 150 hp on the dyno.

Man that is a sweet package! I wish i had the kind of $$$ to impulse buy that.

I had it on my Nytro XTX and it rocked. The K&N's are a pain, but they give it the huge bottom end boost. If you have a few extyra bucks get the autotune as well as its makes the sled run perfect.

The Schmidt Bro clutch is up for sale along with a Hauck Husher Exhaust. The Schmidt Bro clutch was excellent and the Hauck exhaust looked and sounded nice as well but no need for eithe rone now that they are all replaced by Ulmers package.

I agree. Easy to install in theory but try get your hands in there! I must have popped each air horn off the throttle body 3 times trying to get them all on last night. But now it's done! Leaves a TON of extra room on top of the engine now too.

Also, you don't have to take your bars off and move the steering post over. I just undid both the blocks and moved it over to the oil tank side a bit. Airbox was still tight but came out.

I would actually like to keep teh Schmidt Brothers clutch kit. Can this clutch kit be used with this trail package without any issues?

I would try it and see which clutch kit you like better! Do a little testing and see which one is better let us know! I have the same kit but i have the pciii with d&fs and its pretty good i also have some super rats (forsale) and i have the ulmer clutch kit minus the weights that i would like to get! i to started to impluse buy on clutching and never really got to try the ulmer clutch kit . would like to try it with the weights and also am intrested in the schmidt brothers.

I have the same set up and love it....one word of caution...put additional support on the K&N's. I did this by adding a plastic tube from one side of my light assymbly to the other right above where the K&N's sit. I then secured them to this piece with velcro tape.

Found out about this the hard way when my ride was cut short last year after hitting a significant bump at speed and two of my filters popped off...not a good trail side repair at -35!

Yes, I added extra tie straps on mine to make sure they did not flex.
