my uncle today just bought a 2012 phazer mtx, i dont know much about these machines as far as riding/fuel economy and i think theyre only a 500cc? wich doesnt sound like much but my uncle commin off the old roloflexes and commanchees and yamaha 340s to something 30+ yrs newer is gunna have a blast, when i heard he bought one i thought it was a shorty and go look at it and i was like , unclee mel!!! u got a mtx!,well he didnt know what that was,his exact words were, i dont know what that is (meaning mtx) and said did i really it!,lol..but anyways hes happy as heck and for the monster or lack of monster hills around here itl be perfect i bet!. just another yamaha addition to the family of 12,lol 
when i sat on it, i was like woa the seating is definatly different than the old rx1,lol u sit up higher and thiner of a seat!

2009 Phazer MTX
The Phazer MTX definitely has a learning curve, pretty tippy until you learn how to use that towards your advantage. On the flip side they are one of the best handling off trail sleds on the market because of the "tippyness". As far the engine blowing up, I've got 2000+ miles on my SECOND engine, I'm one of only 2 or 3 people that have had a non-turbocharged phazer go boom. The First engine had a rod that had a casting flaw which cracked, Yamaha took care of me though! Mileage is GREAT for a 144" sled, I average 19-22mpg trail riding and ~14-15mpg playing in the powder. With the gearing the MTX has it feels like its got more than 80HP under the hood, especially in the 0-60 range.
