Under the hood items

Planning is a good thing. Unlike the other guys with electric start, you don't have a pull cord. It's best to be prepared, even if the risk is very, very low.

Who is planning on needing jumper cables for their sled?

I carry an Arctic Cat starting nylon strap that works on the primary clutch.

Always have carried it, just in case the electric starter and back in my two stroke days, the recoil quit. Never had to use it.

Tried it on the Warrior, It works. I will admit the sled was warm at the time.

Can't be much worse than a T-Cat though at -37. It took nine of us one morning to fire the T-Cat, but we did Get er done.

This may be a dumb question, but isn't there a set that plug right into the leads that are already there on the APEX? They have the leads allready there with the special ends, one would think that there would be a set just special for them.

A possible issue with these is they are "charge" cables, not jumper cables, (not much jumping through a 3A fuse!). You may not have the time always to wait for the battery to charge enough to start.

I sent an e-mail to Upstart asking if the cables are charging cables or jumper cables. Here is there response:

To answer your question, though, yes, the cables can be used with snowmobiles. I've sold quite a few for that purpose.

I don't call the cables "jumper cables" just so purchasers aren't disappointed to find that the charge takes just a bit longer than with jumper cables. Charging times vary, but the majoriity of our buyers have reported charge times of 15-60 seconds, with the vast majority toward the low end of the scale. Although charging times are longer than for "traditional" jumer cables, the tradeoff is a pretty good one: You can charge from car-to-motorcycle as well as from bike-to-bike. You also have a compact, fuse-protected unit that protects your EXPENSIVE electrical system.

Any comments?

You would think that Yamaha would make a set like that :?

With that jumper set can you plug it into the 12v acc. port on the new sleds to jump it if need be?

That outlet I believe is switched and fused (2.5 amp which is prolly to low for jumping) so I would not be the best for that purpose. On my 05 I wired a bmw style Powerlet straight to the battery with a 10 amp fuse just for the purpose of jumping and hooking up my charger without opening the hood :D I got the idea from BMW motorcycles, and thought what could be easier, this is a no brainer :flag:
