I've been reading a few posts about gears and different combinations. I have a 03 ER. So, from what I've been reading I have 24/38 gears. Right?

How does changing each gear (top/bottom) affect the acceleration and top speed? What would 22/38 do? or lets say 24/42?

I'm looking for a setup that will increase my acceleration; I rarely see much over 100mph. But I want to hit 100 ASAP!!!

Smaller top gear = less top end, but not necessarilly more acceleration. It will put more torque to the track, but unless you have the traction, it'll just spin even more then it already does. Most of us agree that the stock gearing on the RX1 is about as good as it gets for overall riding performance.

Divide the number of teeth on the little gear (top) into the number of teeth on the larger gear (bottom). The higher the number the more geared down you are. But just because the number is higher doesn't mean you will go slower. Many times it is just the oposite. When your belt is at the top of the front clutch it takes more power to turn it. With lower gear ratio you free up some power. The problem is every sled can be different and you might spend money trying different gears set ups until you find the correct combination that works best for your sled. I will bet you find your self only on the throtle for about a 1000 feet most of the time instead of holding it across the lake. I suggest gearing down for this reason. You will find you can gear down a couple sizes without hurting performance.
