Is anyone else tempted to pick up a backup or a backup of a backup with some of the prices that are out there?
Seen them down to the low sixes if not lower.
I mean the wife is going to ride some day with us rite?!?!?

Typical if you buy at end of season say April the dealers will deal on a new sled to avoid the cost of carrying over to next season as not only is there a floor plan financing charge there is depreciation cost. So when they consider this they come to the realization that offering a deal is in their best interest . You may have to travel to find such a deal but I can assure you they will be out there.. Dealer near me would not deal last spring as he had six sidewinders and six Cats and as of last week he still has three and four so now they are all a year older and he is still got them.. Young Sales manager that will learn when they are 2 years old next fall or he will fire sale them this spring.. Either way he breaks even at best and I don’t see how he will make money on these units…

Up in Canada, the prices are even cheaper. I have seen some around $6K CDN which is around $4k USD. I imagine they will get even cheaper near the end of the season. Bad winters, expense to ride and the fact that CAT/yamaha closed up shop are the big factors.

I've seen a 2022 mountain max at a dealer for $8,999!!! I almost drove the 6 hours to go snag it

It is tempting, but I’m not spending my money on a 998 unless it has EPS

Have you ever rode a 998 with "manual" power steering? I.e - Barn of Parts manual power steering? Not sure how much assist you're looking for. I have had multiple rotator cuff surgeries AND a rigjt shoulder replacement and I ride a 2027 ZR9000 Ltd Stage 4 with Barn of Parts mechanical power steering without difficulty. It is tempting, but I’m not spending my money on a 998 unless it has EPS
The only drawback to BOP mechanical power steering is you have to move the handlebars more to achieve same steering. Not a big deal in my opinion over thousands of miles of riding.

True, the BOP mechanical arms do decrease effort nicleyalong with SnoTrackers, I loved that setup on my 17, but the factory EPS is on another level Jon. I loved my 17 and never felt I "needed" the EPS, but riding my buddies 22 GT with the EPS when he got it, and then my 23 LE with the EPS, I have to say I'd not go back to a non EPS sled ever again as a primary machine.
The EPS makes steering effortless and on top of that, a nice bonus of not getting the bars ripped out of your hands, it adds the shock absorber effect, say running in a plowed field or the rough stuff in either a straight line or a corner too. Hard to explain, but it makes the sled feel 150 lbs lighter to me and makes riding so much nicer and accurate once you get used to it. At first you tend to oversteer it.... Then you get used to it real quick and settle in to being able to take the extra pressure off your hands and arms as you go thru the bumps and the corners, its so nice especially with bad shoulders and arms, it will extend your riding years as we age...

I have had quite a bit of seat time on a SW with the BOP arms. The BOP arms are nice, but I would like the real deal on my next 998T. I have a 1 year old Lynx, so I’m not looking for an upgrade right now, but I could definitely see myself searching for a low mileage 9000 or SW with EPS in a year or two.Have you ever rode a 998 with "manual" power steering?
