So, I let my friend drive my RX1 around my yard this weekend, well, I wasn't paying attention and he dug a hole and get gunning it. Next thing I know (once I hear that he is making a lot of noise but I am not seeing him) their is a burning smell coming from the left side of the machine. I go over and the belt is SCREAMING hot. Let it cool off and seemed to be OK, couldn't really tell if it was slipping or anything. Question = Is that belt now shot to hell? I didn't see anything glaring wrong with the belt but someone mentioned that if it gets that hot it could cause the belt to get really smooth and not work as well.
Just run the sled. If it feels like there is ant clunking or slipping in the clutch change the belt. If not, run it. I slipped my belt before in real heavy wet snow and still was able to get full life out of the belt.
Ah heck my wife road mine 15 miles with the break on and complained because it was a dog and smelled worse than our 2 strokes. Rode that belt for another 300 miles till I sucked a rock into the tunnel and wedged it between the track and the heat exchanger in in 3 feet of snow. could'nt understand why it would'nt go anywhere. Burnt a small notch in the belt and it made a slight nocking sound. Thought it might be time to install the new backup I had with me. That was at 2700 miles.

Good reason to not let friends drive your sled
