Belt Burning Smell

I have the supertune 2 kit with the HH, smaller rollers, Super tune 2 kit Helix. The secondary spring is silver and set at 90.

Question, at low speeds, less then 20 mph I smell my belt burning and the clutches feel warm after a short ride. What can I do, or is this normal

My HH are set up with 1/4 allen in heel, 7/16 steel bolt and thick steel washer in the middle and 7/16 steel bolt and thick steel washer in the tip.

Did you put all the spacers back correctly? Sounds like the secondary isn't aligned.

deshkae: Make sure your offset is correct. Which one of your clutches is warmer? What is you fullshift RPM? If your primary is hotter and your under reving I'd say you have your Fly weights over loaded. If your over reving and your seconday is warmer I'd say your secondary is to tight.

At those low speeds, it could be your primary slipping on engagement. Check your primary for a black ring down low.

Is there any drag on the sled at all, can you roll it by hand?

Hate to ask this, but is this your first Yamaha, are you new to these clutches? I made plenty of mistakes my first time out...

This is my second Yamaha and my knowledge of clutching is okay but not as good as some of you. I have set this kit up per Simons CPR Supertune 2 settings.

I have not had a chance to open it up and see what the top RPM is.

I do not see a black ring down low on my primary.

All the spacers are back in correctly.

The belt ride hight is about right on the secondary.

I belive it may be the twist on the secondary and I may have made a mistake there. Here is what I did. I put one end of the spring in the 6 hole and the other end in the 3 hole because the twist is suppose to be 90. Then I turned the helix clockwise until it was able to line up with the first ramp button the helix encountered.

Have I done the secondary correct and if so what are your recomendations.

Sounds OK, you might want to do it again to be sure you wrapped it clockwise. going the other way can result in very little belt squeeze...You'll get it, keep messin' around Good luck!

Deshkae, If you stated correctly, that you only have the 1/4" allen in the heel, then you need to add more heal weight. I had the same problem with belt slipping that you are having. Some guys are running the 3/4" allen in the heel with good results, but ,I had to use both the 1/4" and 3/4" in the heel to get good enough belt squeeze to stop the low speed slipping. Try it. Hope it works for you.........Craig
