Friend of mine has a Vector with 2000 miles on it now just got back from a week snowmobiling trip.
When he would come up to a road and stop and went to give the sled throttle to go across the road he said the engine would hardly rev up and the belt was squealing like h#ll and the sled wouldn't move. Scared him because he was going to cross the road infront of a car he had enough time and the sled wouldn't move. He wasn't sure what was causing it ,maybe the primary was binding, or if the belt was down in the secondary. It happened to him twice in the week. Another Vector that was with him it happened to him once.
These are older guys in there 50's with completly stock Vectors that keep them well maintaned . They don't believe in messing with clutching. Other than this they are very happy with there Vectors.
I've been reading alot on here about the clutchs on the Vector rattling but have not come across any of these symtoms.
Any info to point his dealer in the right direction??

Did the track spin at all when this happened? If it did, it could simply be that the carbides on the skies were on the tar, and the unstudded track was still on the side of the road. Carbides will bite into tar and if you don't have studs in the track, could cause them to just sit there and spin.

He said it felt like the primary was binding up, after flicking the throttle off and on a few times it finally went. I don't think it was an issue of the carbides sticking.
Maybe it was the TORS??? What do the 4 trokes do when the TORS kicks in.
I know what the TORS does on my Viper when it the throttle sticks but i haven't drove a 4 stoke and had it happen.

Don't think TORS will give you a squealing problem. Next time it happens, shut down the machine and pull open the belt cover and take a look. My RX had the wrong clutch spring from the factory. The secondary was stuck wide open.

It sounds like there slides where melting to the track. That's why the beldt was squealing if that was the problem.

Yesterday something similar happen to my Warrior 04. I open the hood, remove the guard and notice the belt was loose in the drive in. I then stop the engine, pull hard on the belt, then restart the engine. problem when away. Talk to the dealer this morning; told me it needed a good cleanup after 5000 mil. So tonite I will do her oil change and open the drive in and check if every is OK.

I've noticed my belt guard has marks on it from the belt. But I should run some tape over it to see if its still hitting.

I have 1500 miles on my Vector and it did the same thing, belt needs to be adjusted or a new belt. Sam

I'll tell him to check the basics.
Are these Vectors with all the 4 Stoke torque and the 1 1/4 Ripsaw that hard on belts?

No, I have 3800 miles on my belt.

Check clutch alignment. Also, he may have flat spotted the belt.

If they locked the track up while stopping for the road crossing, it is likely that the belt was down in the secondary. If you lock up the track with the clutches shifted out this will happen EVERY TIME. Get them to try this and see if it is the same symptions. When stopping you should always try to let the sled roll the last couple of feet to let the secondary clutch backshift.

T-Rex, mine just happened when I would let off the gas and no brake, slide into the corner and gas it, belt squeals.

I think PRO116 is on the money. Hyfax melting to the track. If they had been riding in marginal snow conditons for awhile I'll bet that is what it was. It feels like the track is locked and the belt will just slip and squeal.
My hyfax melted to my track yesterday early in the morning when the trail was still hard and icy. I heard a squeaking sound coming from the skid before it locked. Only thing is I don't know how he was able to ride off because once it's melted it takes some work to pull the track off the hyfax.

Iv'e had mine melt before and feldt the friction so I went off trail in some loose snow and let them cool down but when I went to take off the same thing happened as you described about the beldt squealing it took a little gas to turn the track and some beldt burning ,lol. The once it broke loose it was fine.
