I am not overly happy with my 2006 Vector GT and the amount of maintenance it requires.
Every year a set of sliders
Idlers - can't change bearings without buying different idlers or entire wheel with bearings that go very year or two
Idlers that the rubber peals off of
Exhaust gaskets leak after a couple of years
Had to have carbs cleaned and reset after two years as would not start and idle properly
Paint on running boards and suspension is terrible
Darting is/was terrible and had to buy new carbides to help solve the issue
and the list goes on and on
I expected a lot better quality from Yamaha and am terribly disapointed. I bought this machine for two reasons. Fuel economy and an engine that would last.
Well the fuel ecoomy is no better than a newer BRP and the engine while it is does live up to expectation the rest of the machine does not by a long shot. Not saying any other brand is any better but not what I expected. As an example my last BRB the sliders had 10,000 miles on them and where still good, never changed an idler and only while I did change some idler bearings I only did so as a preventitiive maintenance (wifes machine has 10,000 km and never had a bearing changed and all are still like new)
Lastly when I pilled the skid out this summer I now see where the mono shock is rubbing on the track and starting to wear the shock and also the part that controls the shock adjuster (plastic piece) has been rubbinng on the track and is also wearing and will have to be replaced. Seems every time I look at it I need to fix something and parts are not cheap.

I have to agree with you on some of the things that are wearing out on the vector, I have been a diehard yamaha rider since 1977 and I think that my 08 ltx vector has had the highest mantanece required for 1 season of riding than any of my many yamahas that i have owned. wheels , wheel bearings, cable for mono adjuster, rapid hyfax wear, dryed out bearings on upper track wheels, I know these are regular items to check but with 2100 miles, this stuff shouldnt be worn out, I will continue to ride Yamahas in the future, but would like to see a few of these small items fixed or updated, I have a depressing income and buying this sled was a major financial move, would like to see some better quality.

06 Vector GT 5900 miles. On my second set of sliders. Track looks great. I regrease all bearings once a year - no problems. I do have a inner idler that is delaminating slight but at $59.00 replacement cost, its not that bad. I did have to replace all the donuts.
Only thing that really bothered me was the oil tank developing a leak. That could really ruin your day. Other than that, I like the sled and would not be selling it if it were more rider forward.
Oh yeah, I've been though 3 RA cables. I won't even replace them now. I just adjust it with a small screwdriver now if needed.

That's what I am talking about. I don't mind doing routine items once in a while and replacing them but every year the same parts over and over and then add new ones each time gets expensive and starts to piss you off. It would be different if you are putting on 4-5000 miles a year and would then expect to have tpo do it, but 1500-2000 miles no way. The RA cable for example should never have to be replaced unless you break a track or something gets tangled in it. Again (I hate to say it but) I had a 2001 BRP with an electric rea shock and after 10000 miles it still worked like new.
The slider thing has been talked to death and the conclusion I have come to is that some owners see that there is alot of wear in one spot, get nervous and replace them.
The initial wear in ,in one spot will stop and then the they wear more evenly.
I have gotten at least 2500 miles on all my 4 strokes about the same as 2 stroke yammies.
I have repacked all my bearings by carefully removing the seal and then regrease., easy to do.
I DO agree that yammie has put in lower quality bearings in the past 3 or 4 years IMO.
My RA cable broke also, the end comes off, not sure why, is it too short or ??
I wouldn't trade my 08 GT for any other sled i can think of. I love the way you can keep your thumb in the throttle for miles and miles on a grade or lake and never worry about a (BRP) ...also known as a burn down.
In other words I can fix the little things on my sled VS. having my engine rebuilt and losing all that ride time.
