Looking for the pro's and con's of these for boondocking. Thinking of buying the Nytro MTX but that's a big wad of cash.

I've been wondering the same thing too. I just had concerns that the machine may be too heavy woods riding compared to a Phazer mountain or M6.

They are the same as any RX1 great rides if you do a few lightweight mods.
With the lower HP motor every pound helps .
If you can get it cheap enough to spend some time and money on the mods you will have a great sled.
Stock they are heavy and underpowered for the weight but next to indestructible.

What kind of mods?

Look for a Vector SE. Awsome boondocker as long as you dont need to climb big hills. I spent alot of time on the Vector SE and Apex in 06. Stuck way more on the Apex than the Vector in the tight trees. Vector has the power to turn the track but not spin it as fast as the Apex dose. That makes for better traction in less than ideal snow but if suffers on the hills. Plus the SE have the best ride on the trails.
Remove headlight, smaller battery, seat and exhaust are easy ways to lose weight. Exhaust on a Vector is one of the sweetest sounds ever!

I own a vector, and I would agree about the comments reguarding the SE model. It has a better tunnel. I have spent a lot of money modding my machine with items the SE model comes stock. The track length is very helpful...you wouldn't think that just a little length would make that much difference, but it does. The maverick track is better in all conditions, and it has extrovert drivers which fixes the number one issue I have had... track slippage. The downside is low top speed. The engine is super reliable with lots of torque, just take care of that battery, and you will most likely have no problems.
The gearing and clutching will need a little change. Yamaha always goes a little conservative on this. Too many variations on this to give good advice.
Downside, not very fun on long trail rides. Comfortable, yes, but steering gets tiring after a few hours. I'm not impressed with the track shocks. I replaced them and like it a lot better. Had a hard, hard time finding aftermarket shocks. This is a problem for this sled in all areas. Very few places have products for vectors. Plenty of RX 1 stuff, so you have to educate yourself on what is common between the two.
OVERALL, I am happy with the machine. I have ridden most of the new machines ( except the Rev XP) and NONE of the machines I rode boondock as easy as the Vector. ALL of my friends that try it say it is very easy to turn in the powder. Better skis help even more. The gas mileage is good, not GREAT like the claims say, but better than anyone else on the snow.
Hope this helps.
Waiting on snow.

Check out the "Second Ride" report under FX NYtro MTX and look at the video he shot. Nytro is impressive but wife says no-way.

I just picked up an 06 Vector Mtn SE. It's my next project sled. I got 93 lbs out of my RX1 so I'm hoping for at least that on the Vector.

I had a post in this forum going way back that told all the places I took weight out of my RX1.Back then I weighed everything. Somebody borrowed my scale and never gave it back so I don't know if I'll bother weighing every part this time. I'll do a search later or you can to try and find the post. It's probably been close to 2 years since I wrote it.

you should have no prob losing weight from the vec everything is steel a-arms harms in skid everything under the hood battery holder & lots of brackets i got rid of on mine.the se is the way to go less things to get like everybody said its much easier to ride than apex or rx1 but less power as long as your not a hill climber its a fun sled.my vec has been a do more with less project from day one everybody was doing up the rx1 then apex i wanted to be differnt so i did the vec & it will put the scare in most any big boost rx or apex at 500lbs dry & around 330hp with stoker kit 18lbs boost & watermeth spay.they have huge potential if you want to start small & improve a little each year mine has been a 4 year project that is almost done.but it was still a fun sled when it was stock. ;)! ;)!
