I got my vector last night and took her for a spin around my yard its sweeet.
How do you get the rear bumper off and is it aluminium ?
I do not like the rough dull finish on it and would like to polish it.

You need to remove the black plastic trim that covers the back and extends around the sides of the tunnel. It is held on by bolts from the inside of the tunnel. Two per side I believe.

Once you get this off it will expose the bolts that you need to remove to get the bumper off.

There was some discussion on the RX forum on polishing the bumper. I believe Cubby posted. Something along the lines of 1000 grit sanding required prior to polishing.

Let me know how you make out with pics if possible. I am interested in doing this also.

skidozer,

Took another look at my Vector last night. You can likely get the bumper off without removing the black plastic trim.

There are two large bolt heads on each side of the tunnel. There are on the inside of the tunnel near the rear and the top. If you remove these from both sides the bumper should slide out.

If you are looking to polish the tunnel also, you might as well remove the plastic trim.

THANKS FOR THE INFO FLIPPER. I took the plastic trim off and started polishing the tunnel with speedys metal polish and a flitz ball last night.
I should have taken seat off it would have been easier.
It looks better but needs at least 3 more applications

I will take the bumper off tonight and strip the paint off and will polish it for this season, maybe chrome for next year.

I was thinking powder coating rather than polishing. Any opinions on this?

I need to get at polishing my tunnel also.

I will be taking off the seat and the trim. I will likely get started in the next day or so.

Last year on my Viper I used a light polishing compound and a buffer wheel on the end of my drill. It worked great.

Mac powder coating seems like a good idea and it will hold up ,they have a almost chrome color also.
I was always going to buy the eastwood tool co. powder coating kit you just need a old electric oven to bake the parts in. I have seen good results from this.
I don't know what that bumber is painted with but looks bad its dull and even feels funny unless its a high temp paint.
I was just going to polish mine as i can do it asap.

My Vipers had/have the same rear bumper material. It gets kind of crummy looking as it ages. I'm sure polishing would help that, but I was thinking of Yamaha blue...
