Ok, you're all probably getting tired of questions regarding stud quantity, but I was looking for feedback from folks that have tried their setup. I just got my Woody's universal template in today's UPS shipment. I have 144 Woody's 1.325" Gold Diggers to put in the Ripsaw track on my Vector. My friends say I am overstudding, and should use 96. I am only studding the inside section of the track with a 2 double/ 2 single pattern. However I don't want the front to push in the corners. I could omit the singles. I plan on using 6" or 8" Woody's carbides. I'd classify my riding style as somewhat aggressive trail. I know Woody's recommends 144 MINIMUM, but whaddya think?

I had 144 and 8" bars with C&A's on my SX with the old .750" lug height and thought it worked pretty good, but I didn't like the studs on the outside sections of the track. Took quite a beating.

Stay in center belt with the studs. 96 is plenty. Over 3000 miles on my RX-1 and not one problem.

On your RX-1 did you stud outside the center belt? I installed 144 in my RX-1 and studded outside the center belt. I tore the outside edge of my track on my 2000 SX700R right where it was studded outside the center belt. Result, new track (1.25") and studs only in the middle. I'm wondering if the same will happen on the RX-1.

Just curious, where do you ride in the Geneva area? I have not heard of riding only skiing. I have not even seen magazine or TV reports on snowmobiling in Switzerland. Got any websites on the subject? Now that is mountain riding...

Studs are only in the center belt. I kept them there because track damage from studs normally occurs with studs on the outside of the track.

Snowmobiling is illegal in Switzerland. My sleds are in North America and I fly over 3-4 times a year to ride.

Nice Rumble, I think 96 studs would be just fine, but you could split the diff. and do a 120 pattern, just do a 3, 2, 3, 2. If you feel you need more just fill in the one that were skipped,

I agree with this one. Fits the one per HP plan and works out nicely for balance.

I ran 144 studs in the center on my Viper, three per row. I used 6 inch carbides on the front. This worked out very nicely for me.

I have used the same setup on the Vector. I posted some pics but I see they are now gone.

Here they are again.

Stud Qty.

Cool pattern, Flipper. Don't think I've seen that one before. Looks like plenty of scratch lines. Problem is, I wanted to try double backers this year so I bought 48 doubles and 48 singles for a 144 qty of 4-2-4-2 all on the inside. If I went with 96, I could use 2 doubles every other lug. Looks like next step up on the templet when using doubles in the mix is 144 with the pattern mentioned above. Here's some images.

Got my pattern off Totallyamaha.com in the tech pages.

It is the 144 Woodys one.

From Now on I will always only stud the center belt. I have a shreaded track from my rx-1 in the garage from the outside being studed. Also took the front exhanger with it. I am going to bne studding the venture with a 96 pattern thats something around 118 studs.
