I replaced the stock windshield on my 2010 Vector GT with the taller Yamaha windshield. The new windshield has 2 braces attached to the windshield that tie to dash. I'd like to remove the braces but wonder if the gauge pod that the windshield is attached to will support the taller windshield with the added wind pressure on the plastic gauge pod assembly. Anyone running the taller windshield without the braces with success? Thanks. Fran

I wouldn't chance it, unless you ride real slow most of the time.

I thought the shape of this optional windshield was similar to the 2013+ stock Vector windshields that do not use the braces? Am I wrong?

The tall and extra tall windshields with the braces are quite a bit taller than the stock windshield. Run the braces to help keep the windshield up and take stress off the headlight assembly.

I have an extra tall windshield on Vector, maybe you can tell from my Avatar Pic. if you don't keep the braces the windshield will start to bend backwards over 60MPH . This will end up messing up the windshield and light pod.

Thanks for the inputs folks--looks like the braces are going to stay.

My confusion was that I thought the optional windshield I purchased was the same as the stock 2013 to current Vector windshield. Looks like the stock 2013 + windshield will fit my 2010, then I can run without the braces. Anyone done this and is the new stock windshield adequate for wind protection?

I don't have your answer, and I don't want to hijack a thread, but this looks like a place a windshield height/model number question might fit..
I picked a used Apex and the dealer put a larger windshield on it. Not the tallest one availble, but larger than stock and it had the support bars. I dumped the Apex after two rides and got a 2010 Vector. I moved the newer windshield over, didn't use the bars and it worked fine. I noticed last year that I was ducking down just a touch to keep my helmet out of the wind and want a larger windshield for this season. But nothing I look up makes sense. I've come up with:
SMA-8FT96-40-BK Extra Tall (17-3/4') Fits Apex up to 2010, Attak and '08~'14 Vector models, Clear/Black Fade
SMA-8FA96-50-BK 18-3/4", Clear/Black Fits ‘03~’07 RX-1, RX-1 Mountain, RX Warrior, RS Vector, RS Vector Mountain, RS Rage and RS Venture
8FM-K7210-00-00 18-3/4", Fits ‘03~’07 RX-1, RX-1 Mountain, RX Warrior, RS Vector, RS Vector Mountain, RS Rage and RS Venture (RS Mega Tall/Wide Windshield)
The second two listing "Fits ‘03~’07 RX-1, etc" are listed in the 2011 RS Vector section of options.
And the final fun part, the tallest one shown is less than 19", yet the way I measure the one on my sled now, I come up with 23 1/2 inches. That is measuring from the tip to the base of the windshield. Are they measuring another way?
Thanks for any input here.

Just run the windshield with the braces oldtimer...so we can ride more than 50 miles a day it's not about looks! and why are you a newbie all the sudden? My confusion was that I thought the optional windshield I purchased was the same as the stock 2013 to current Vector windshield. Ran the tall windshield on my wifes sled last year with no issues. 100 mph on speedo with no abnormal flexing.
