I remember some discussion about this last year but can't find now. After about 135 miles my plastic rail tips are about shot on the new M7 skid. I've noticed a vibration only in the deepest snow, on a ski track or trail it goes away. The tips are being pushed into the track at an angle it doesn't appear would be possible. Limiters are in the middle, front shock almost all the way soft, rear is stiffest. I remember one guy actually cut and rewelded his at a better angle. I think Frosty went to wheels on the tips.
Would tightening the limiters all the way help? any other spring settings? It appears this thing should probably be set about two inches forward of the stock RX1 mount points and maybe close to an inch higher but got no interest in that, like my new approach angle.
I'm thinking wheels may be my easieast/cheapest option.
Any other ideas.
Oh yea, would the higher mount point provided by the Holz brackets make any difference to this?
Thanks guys!

Don't scare me! I am in the process of reconditioning my M7 skid (bearings, paint) and when I get it in there someday, I don't want vibration. I have a buyer for my stock skid, extension, but I will hang on to it until I know the M7 performs the way I like. I don't want to spend more money on wheels.

The limiters on my brothers sled with the M7 are tight, i believe thats how they were from the factory. No problems on the front of the rails after well over 500 miles.

Thatspec are you running a 3 pitch track? I put two small idlers on a shaft near the front similar to the anti-stab type wheels some were installing on M7's. I never noticed an issue with the 2.52 pitch(stock rx-1 m track), but could see it happening with a fully clipped 3 pitch.

Doo, you didn't notice a vibration in the foot wells did you? I am painting the A-arms and springs black and re-polishing the rails.

I have the same vibration with the apex skid, I'm assuming it's driver/track contact but I've heard that track tension could be the problem. I'm trying to vary tension on track, I have it pretty loose as I did with M7 skid. I am going to tighten it up for the next trip. The M7 skid doesn't allow you run the track tight unless you use the Holz brackets.

Hum?? Perhaps a thorough inspection is needed on my sled?
I do not have the anti stab wheels but I think it's a good idea.
I have my limiter straps all the way out and the only problems I see are; when I ported my track I drilled three holes across the center belt. The front of the holes in the center of the belt show they have been rubbed by something a small amount. I suspect it's the bottom of the front shock mount but it sure doesn't show any signs of rubbing.

If you actually take that shock off and look on the xover bar that it is mounted to you might be surprised.....if you took your front bogeys off it will rub there. Mine showed about 1/16" of metal worn away from the rubber nubs on the track rubbing on it. Didn't always do it but did it enough to make me swing that front shock back and up. Never had that issue again.

I would not run an M7 skid w/o the anti-stab wheels. Bad idea with the pull-back. They are super cheap insurance. $45! My track can't even touch the railtips. Get the Holz relocation brackets too. Night and day ride on the whoops. And as far as riding powder.....I would leave the straps all the way out for transfer!

Ok Aaron, where can I get a set of those wheels and maybe the cross shaft?
I do have a couple extra cross shafts which I have removed from the M-7 skid that maybe could be used to mount the wheels?
Todd, how far back and up do you move the lower mount of the front shock?

I am glad this was brought up. I have the same issue. I did relocate the front spring as Trxster mentioned after noticing the wear under the crossover bar the front spring is attached to but still have the vibration. I really noticed it when I get in the deep stuff. I also notice it as slower speeds.
I want to thank you Aaron for the site. I have purchased the antistab kit after I noticed my rail tips wearing pretty bad. I hope this fixes the vibration. If not, I will feel better about not runningt the rail tips through the track windows. We will see if this helps.
Aaron, do you feel the vibration we are talking about? Did you notice it before you put the antistab kit on?
Thanks,
J.
