Yamaha has their name on the line. Their engineers have their reputation on the line. They are highly motivated to make this work.

It has been pointed out many times the Cat chasis has been good; issues have been belt and chain case IE drive train.

Is it a suprise then that Yamaha wants their own Motor and drive train......NOT.

Do you think Yamaha is requesting the total repair history on this sled/chasis so they know where to focus improvement- YES its their reputation on the line.

I am going to take a wait and see approach with high hopes. I personally love what I see.

I have high hopes for both Cat and Yamaha using this relationship to improve and grow.

my two cents

I believe the Viper still uses an Arctic Cat drive train for the most part. At 135 HP it should hold together fine for most customers. I am glad to see they are using high quality Yamaha clutches. Arctic Cat clutches are sourced from China and the materials and machining leaves a lot to be desired.

not sure about chain case could be a big deal in many peoples minds.

That's made by Cat (to Yamaha specs as said) but they had to produce some taller gears for it.

Werent the cats geared to low to begin with? I thought I read that somewhere...

According to what they told me yesterday the Cat version of this sled can't pull the gears with the Cat clutches. So in essence I hinted to the Yamaha employee......so the Yamaha version will be faster??...and he nodded yes. Should be if it pulls more gear I guess. Apparently Yamaha will not give them their clutching. From what I heard the Cat clutches have issues. Especially on the turbo model. Lots of blown $200+ belts. OUCH!!!

Pretty sure if Cat can clutch race sleds(both cross country and sno cross) they can figure out clutching a 4 stroke for the trail...they did it with their 125hp 1100NA

Kinda funny the Yamaha guys just keeping digging to justify this sled being somehow better than a Cat.......little hint guys, WE ARE ON THE SAME TEAM NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!

While Cats clutching on their 2 stroke was really good...I haven't heard anything great about their 4 stroke clutching....Yamahas 4 stroke clutching is generally very good.

If it is true that the Cat version has their own clutches I wonder how many will switch them out for Yamaha clutches? Yamaha might sell a few clutches to people.

I know a few guys that if you call their GMC pickup a Chevy they will get upset.

Absolutely Mark.....AS ALWAYS yamaha has a 10 YEAR PLAN, that being SAID they TELL NO ONE ANYTHING.

If Yamaha would have done this with SKI DOO, what would have been the Responces , or what about with Polaris?

If YAMAHA made the Viper on their own the way it is right now.....I'll bet everything i own there would still be those that would not be happy. Lets face it EVERY YEAR here on TY at the releases of the NEW SLEDS we go through this.

I was one of those; in my mind saying WTF ....but when you really get past all of that, this sled and the next FOUR SLEDS Could Be, Should Be & Hopefully Will Be AMAZING YAMAHA SLEDS.

Being a APEX Owner the New Viper is SWEET....butt im waiting to see what they offer us Apex guys. Butt Im sure going to TEST DRIVE that VIPER frst chance i get...I LOV THIS SLED IT LOOKS AMAZING, HELL YA!!!
:sled1:

I have mixed feelings about the Viper because I don't understand how going this route fits in with a 10 year plan. But I'm willing to wait and find out. I'm sure the Viper will be a fine sled at the end of the day.

Having said that, I think you give Yamaha a little too much credit. They aren't sticking their collective asses out in the breeze all that far. If the viper is a turd they will go back to an all-Yamaha build. Sure they'll lose a few customers, but they were bleeding customers as it is. The rest of us loyalist will run back to them and say "well at least they are building their own stuff again!".

To me, the potential hit on reputation would be short lived.
