2011 Yamaha Venture
Just thought I would share a miss hap from last season. I have an 06 venture that I bought used drove it around in a field behind my house a few days and ran great, I trailer it up north to go trail riding, with my son who was so pumped because we got a Yamaha 2-up four stroke. Got up north went for small ride it ran great by the way stopped at gas station started it up took off went for a while the it back fired lights went dimm and quite. Reached down to hit the key, by the way it was dark, when I went to the key it was pinned in the start position toasted the starter put on about 12 miles! The key was a plane key with a tongue shaped rubber tab just like you get from the dealer, it some how got pinned up against the steering console. Had to replace starter $$$$$$$ ! Now I am just using plane key on just a ring!

Ever since I read the "folding key fob," or some such issue with the Vectors.....I've paid special attention to my keys. Thanks for the reminder.

All of my sled keys have ONLY a fluorescent zip tie on them.....sticking straight up. Nothing to catch or bind, and if I drop it in the snow....the zip tie will stick up through the snow.

IF I end up not selling my 14 Vector, I'm going to install a small LED light that's pulling power from the starter side of the relay. That was if a key is stuck or the relay goes bad (like what happened to me last season) the light will stay on after the sled is started and I'll know something is wrong.

The Rock on this site sells a flashing LED, calls it "Starter Saver". It was cheap even sent to Canada. Has all the wiring and instructions, have them on both our sleds.
Think one of the causes of failure was due to wire shorting under the engine, and/or sticking relay.

I was told by grizztracks that Rock's system would not have indicated a problem with my sled.

I Have a lot of respect for grizztracks but on my sleds the LED flashes when I am starting the sleds so it should also flash when the key is stuck on. LED is wired to come on anytime the starter runs.

I had a LED light put on at the time the starter was replaced it comes on when the starter is on!
