seems to be getting a clunking noise on the chaincase side on my new 2012 apex xtx, just going around the front lawn no serious miles on the machine yet, found the chaincase drain plug was only hand tight and leaking, oil level was down to 1/2. tightened the plug and topped it up, also found the chaincase tensionor was not adjusted properly, gave it a couple of turns and tightened it down. found the track was also loose, loosened off the rear idler wheels and gave the 14 mm bolts a couple of turns, seems to be a little better, do the 144 tracks make more noise than the 121. this is my first long track so not sure what to expect as far noises. seems to make alot more noise when the clutch engages on the chaincase side. anyone have any ideas

i took mine out for 20 miles yesterday and didnt notice any noises, didnt have a helmet on for the first mile to just listen. Perhaps these issues were from the dealer not setting things up right, i'm not to sure. This sled rips and has plenty of traction!!

So far, been hearing of at least one xtx doing the same. Although, it is likely to be coincidental because both are new and the mechanical parts are begining to wear themselves in, such as chain loosening and likely the reverse linkages needing adjustment at a later date.

Yes they do. All that extra track slapping around in there. Your case is another reason why I never trust someone else to set-up my stuff. Always check the gizmo over and make sure everything is in spec.
Also are you riding in low snow conditions which doesnt absorb the noise like good snow conditions. First thing i would do is let the dealer know about the problems you found and you would like the prep money back.

Yeah, I experienced a dealership mishap myself. My front right shock, where the top bolt goes through, the nut was just started on the bolt, about 1/2" from where it should be once tightened down. Noticed it when sled was apart for my HID's and others.

weird noise
thanks for the replys, pretty disappointed on the prep by the dealer, I usaully do all my own service so its a good thing I caught this in time, really hard to find good service up here in eastern ontario, took it around the yard a couple more times after I made the adjustments seens to be a little better, snow is loose and powder, lots of it , trails around here should be open soon. just came back from syracuse new york where I bought a yamaha ac adaptor for my electric face shield,( plugs into the cigarette lighter on the sled) 15 bucks at the dealer just across the border, that same adaptor up here in ontario, goes for over 40 bucks, we are getting hosed up here considering the dollar is nearly at par and has been for a very long time. anyway thought you might want to here that story.

Sounds like you bought it from the same dealer I did! Wait...that store closed, moved in with Powersports. Suprised???NOT! Better look over it real well, I found the throttle body clamps overtightened and boots folded inside, not cool...By the way, don't need the AC adaptor for visor as it's already on the left grip below Hi/Lo beam switch, possibly some heated clothing under the tree this year???Rail Trail at Montpellier Qc. is open and groomed as of this AM..If you snowmobile in Qc that is. Good luck with the new machine, keep the rubber side down.

sounds like the muffler bearing needs some lube!
