Can anyone tell me is it worth heading out to West Yellowstone area in early January say the 1st two weeks? Is there typically snow? I don't need 10s of feet of it just enough to make the riding enjoyable on trail.. I don't like dodging rocks all day long and trashing my sled. I am will be towing two sleds from Maine to the area to ride (RxWarrior and Attak). Anything I should know about the area? I know I have to go on a tour / rent a sled for inside Yellowstone, which I will do for a few days. I will spend the rest of the almost two weeks riding around outside the park. Any where I should go???

Thanks for any info.

Most winters you would be fine with those times...
But the last few winters you would be better chasing snow, that is if you want the powder?
lava mtn lodge or Tml are both good places to base out of.

Maybe call the tour company for Yellowstone to get their opinion, or post this on snowest. I went four years ago in January and the snow was good. Stayed right in town at the best western across from the rental place. Worked for us cause the trail started just out of town, and the hotel had a micro brew restaraunt right inside of it. LOL

My family heads out there every year the day after Christmas. You should be fine, we've already made our reservations for the 27th of December. Some years the snow level is pretty low when you get out of the mountains, but theirs usually plenty in them.

Thanks for the info everyone.. Sheetwright how as the Best Western..? Do they have plenty of parking for truck and trailer?

Price was good, lots of parking, can walk town, and right by the trail and near the yellow stone entrance
