This is my first 4 stroke snowmobile, what are the steps needed to properly "Summerize" the sled? I'll be storing it in my garage, so I could easily start it up for a few minutes every month, is that sufficient or is summerizing necessary?

Grease the suspension and put Seafoam in the gas. Run the sled for 5min and your done. Wash and wax and charge the battery every 2-3 months...

Thanks, I like how it doesn't require fogging anything

Isn't that in the owner's manual?

I was curious if most folks found some of the owner's manual steps uneccesary

Good time to put fresh clean oil in. Also make sure bearings are greased. I also spray WD40 on all metal parts.

X2 on the WD-40. I always did this to my two-smokes and never had any corrosion build up on the motor or any of the metal components. Same on the Apex and Nytro. Both my sled motors look new!

I know it is obvious to most, but for the new guys DON'T spray WD-40 on your clutches. Everything else sounds great.

Here is what I do after every season.
Fill gas tank, stabilize gas and run motor. Change oil and filter. Change gear/chain oil. Pull skid clean and grease all wheel bearings and check slides. Grease every zerk. Pull drive shaft bearing check condition, replace bearing or clean and grease. Clean and grease jackshaft bearing. Pull ski's and lube up ski bolts and bushings, Clean her all down.Spray Fluid Film on rear skid and front suspension. I don't fog the motor. My sled is stored in a climatized shop. I don't start my sled during summer. In fall just before riding season I will drain 5 gallons of gas out and replace with 5 gallons of fresh stuff.

I have 5500 miles now. Last year I had all my shocks serviced. This year I am getting my clutches serviced and changing spark plugs.

This will be the first time I stored this apex, but I ALWAYS fogged my rx-1 and any other engine I store for an extended period of time. Does anyone else do this, maybe its not needed with the 4 strokes but I also DON'T start the motor during storage, yamaha makes it clear that this is not a good practice.... At least according to them..

I fog the motor on anything that will be sitting for more than a few months, its a quick and simple procedure. I dont use wd40 or fluid film but instead use silicone spray lube. Works great. spray on almost anything you want. prevents corrosion and lubricates/waterproofs. If only everyone knew to use silicone on the machines there wouldnt be a rusty or corroded used sled on the market. even if you haul in an enclosed trailer, there can still be salt residue from somewhere that will pit and coorode parts. back to summerizing, give it a good wash and wax. I prefer to do most of the prevent maint. in the fall but it doesnt really matter, as long as you do it before the snow flys!
