I just came back from a ride in 16" of powder and blew my belt with 900 miles on it.Exploded so that usually means too much heat.My belt also smells alot when I am driving???
I find the Dayco's grab a little better but don't last very long.

I try to get one season out of my belts. thats 1000-1500 miles of all mountain riding. I'm VERY hard on belts due to riding in deep snow, getting stuck, and pulling out stuck sleds. By the end of the year they are shot. Somtimes I burn one bad enough I have to change it out early. I almost never adjust the deflection and have no noticable loss in perf. Still pulls good rpms. doing radar runs last year,we had 5 yammis with one sled running a ultramax 3,the rest had the oem belt.we ran at least 100 passes in the day.99 passes with no problem and one pass with the ultramax wich self destructed and took a bunch of stuff with it.took the belt back and had another one on warranty, next day, same story.maybe its a good belt for the trail but no good for speed runs,my experience

3400 miles on my 06rtx belt, cleaned it and the clutches this year ,took it to the local radar run with that old belt and took 4 trophies in 4 classes, have a new belt on guard for a spare,no sense in putting the old belt out to pasture when it still has lots of life left,i put almost 7000 miles on my rx1 in 2 years with same belt

coming off of Machs since 89....you cannot even compare DOO belt life to a yammie....LOL.
the money Im saving on belts I should be able to buy a phazer!..LOL.
typically,I will put a new belt on every season, even though my apex belt looks perfect....I swap them over to a spare then probably will pile up spares in shop....
nice thing is yammie uses same belt on many models....
another thing,i used to spend over $150 on Mach belts twice a season or MORE!....apex belt was about 60....and Im sure i can get many seasons out of one!

I haven’t run Yamaha belts or clutches for about 6-years now but if I were to experiment with Yamaha clutches and Ultimax3 belts again I would start by reducing the belt pressures (squeeze)… Ideal pressure is just enough to firmly grip the belt without excessive slippage OR crushing the belt… The Yamaha belt is very hard and requires tons of pressure (squeeze) to keep it from excessively slipping in the sheave faces… The Ultimax3 is harder than most aftermarket belts but it does not require the same extreme belt crushing pressures to grip the sheaves as a Yamaha belt… The drive belt is like a fuse in an electrical system and when it fails it’s telling you something is wrong somewhere in your setup (not necessarily exclusive to the clutches)… That’s why I have stated in the past that 99% of people should just stick with stock or slightly modified stock clutching because experimenting can get really expensive really quick… If I were to experiment with an Ultimax3 belt and I had a stock shorty Apex I would probably start by gearing down 1 or 2 teeth, have a reputable company machine my clutches for overdrive, install some 8BU-00 weights, stock 14.5mm rollers, W-S-W spring, with whatever rivets I needed in the weights to get the correct rpm (probably a couple 13.3s), stock 51/43 helix, green spring at no more than 70* preload, insure proper alignment, deflection, offset… From there it would just take field-testing and fine-tuning… If it didn’t work out I’d just go back to stock or just save myself the time and trouble and buy kit from Ulmer Racing.running a max 3 belt requires what kind of calibration on a relatively stock 150fi?

I have a proline clutch kit but I notice that may clutches get quite warm.
Zip -- Call John at Proline. He would know the most about his kit and will be able to make the best possible recommendations for any adjustments.

I bought a spare the first year and have never used it, 7500 miles on the 03. Rarely race from a dead stop most high speed runs are when were cruising across the lake and one of my buddy's on their 2 strokes trys to pass me (dreamers)
I have towed a few sleds even dragged a two place trailer once and an 8 point buck out of the woods on another occasion. These belts hold up very well
