What to do for shocks

How do you have your skid setup? Incorrect setup will cause a very bad ride, but it can be made to ride very decent with nothing spent. Not saying that the shocks are good (they're actually far too soft), but before spending a ton of $$, you may be surprised what a little of *correct* adjustment will do.... the necessary adjustments are NOT as one would expect.

I was doo for 18 years so this yamaha suspension is new i am fairly stock on settings i did go firmer on rear spring but thats about it i havent had time to work on it i just rode it lol.But i need to adjust it i`m not enjoying it like i should i weigh 240 too

Ok, the stock FRA (full rate adjuster) is set at medium. For *everyone*, even light riders, the skid works a LOT better at HIGH.

The FRA adjuster is at the FRONT of the main shock. There is a slot that the crossbolt fits in, loosen the bolt and move it into the position furthest from the pivot (closest to the ground), and retighten.

Having the main spring very tight will make the ride harsh, with the FRA on maximum, loosen off the spring as far as you can while maintaining the 50/50 control rod gap (the control rods are the things that angle down towards the back with the two big nuts).

You are a heavy rider, so this setup may not be adequate for you. What I recommend is that you *try* this setup, and if you have to keep the spring too tight to avoid harsh bottoming, then you should purchase a stiffer shock. Note that this steel shock cannot be modified, so you won't have any downtime while you send the shock in to be revalved.

I have a 03 RX-1 and think i can do better with a shock rebuild or upgrade what u boys done. And what should i do Thanks

Is the front shocks Stock??? If so contact PIONEER PERFORMANCE and have them revalve the shocks and install strait rate springs (stock springs were variable rate) Also install the longer links and larger swaybar..

Ok Thanks Lazy i will try that i am writing this down lol
Welter i just orderd the new straight rate springs I already have the links installed seemes better and i put on 8 inch carbides then too I want to change ski`s seems alot of u guys dislike them So thats another ? :rocks:

The stock skis don't have enough surface area to support the weight of RX. As a result, there are instances where it can go into dangerous front-end gyrations at fairly high speeds (~70mph on crusty snow) which can cause damage, injury, and if you fall wrong, it could even cause death. Switching to a Simmons ski will keep the front end floating.

There is only one simmons ski. It is an inverted tunnel with two wearbars at the outside edges. Skidoo tried to rip off the design and called it "precision", which was found to be significantly inferior to the true Simmons. By court order, Skidoo is required to stop production of the "precision" ski by end of 2005 model year. Look through this forum, there are a couple of "group buy" threads pertaining to simmons skis.

U guys each have different ski`s I only trail ride so i will need more info on wich will be ]the best i have tried looking for post on them only found a few .I had the ski-doo ski`s but took them off in only 30 miles they caused enormous amout of ski lift and hard steering
