I was swapping tracks on my warrior, and got to the part where you take the top gear off. Well lets just say it wa red loctited on. I had to heat it to get it off. The bearings were new 600 miles ago along with the seal. Common sense says replace them anyways, but the tight a$$ in me says let it go. I still can't phathom why it was loctited with red loctite. Could be the previous owner didn't own a torque wrench and just tightened up the nut on the top sprocket and just to be safe decided to put some red loctite on? I've seen some pretty weird cobble jobs in my day. I'd imagine if you still have the cover off the chaincase that it won't be that hard to pop the chaincase off and spin the bearing to see what it feels and sounds like. With only 600 miles on the bearing and seal you would hope that it's still OK. Those bearings ain't cheap.

I have used red locite in a pinch already when I was out a blue for the gears.Do as vx1r said check it it should be good.

top gear

i used to wrestle with this top nut and had a hell of a time to get it off, i went to auto parts shop and got a 36mm impact socket cut it in half welded a piece of pipe in the middle to make it longer now i have a nice deep socket and can get that gear off and on in a snap, i always put a bit of lock tight as a safety measure.

It just keeps getting better. All of the set screws where loctited in, as where the suspension bolts, with red lock tite. What a pain in the a$$. Funny part is ther lower bolt on the reverse gear, the one that actually comes loose sometimes, had nothing on it, and was not very tight, like it was coming loose. Maxdlx

"Perfectly maintained by an older gentleman". Ya right. Just sell it and by a Viper. And then spend a lotta' hours in the garage working on that LOL. Sometimes ya' just have to grin and bear it Paul. You'll get it in tip top shape. I know in my experience, buying used can be a pain. Always dealing with things that someone else thought was a good idea. Hang in there Bro'

;)!

The old boy wasnt planning on taking it apart any time soon. I am thinking that pats didnt put the track in, because I wouldnt think they would have put the loctite on.....um would they?

Anyway, very nice running sled, maybe you shouldnt be taking it apart.... :tg:

Dave told us both "Buy new and dont modify". Well I bought new and just couldnt stop myself on the modify part. Sorry Dave! And we both knew you couldnt keep your hands off your sled either. :jump:

I've found that the desire to modify is inversely proportionate to the amount of vehicles in your fleet. Just buy another sled, a bike or two, a boat and maybe a tractor then the desire to improve things until they don't work anymore is diminished by the amount of "normal" maintenance you'll be pulling on the other vehicles.

Not nearly as much fun but stock parts do tend to fit better and seem to be easier to find.

OK, back to the lawnmower that suffered internal injuries from eating a rock..:exc:

I only meant don't modify the drivetrain, i.e. superturbonitrousasize it LOL. Have to change ski's, track and do shockwork to make it do what I want. They are PLENTY fast in stock trim, right? Reliable almost always beats fast in the long run. Tweaking is OK, but constantly fiddling with mapping, fuel , nozzles etc. ... NOPE!! RIDING is what I travel a gazillion miles to do. Put in gas and GOOOO !! Hope we have a great winter. After all the downer info at work, I'll need some stress relief this winter. LATER Y'ALL!!!

Sure Dave, you've got to go and write something logical right when I was thinking about a trousasize enhancing hairdyer thingy for one of my Phazers.

Having been involved with two sets of "equity partners" in my own workplace, I can feel your concern. My coworkers and I have found that certain characters in this video clip are a pretty fair representation of their mentality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1E4pYvJTyBA

Keep your chin up and smile. :flag:

OH BOY !!! Thanks Steve, I needed that LOL. We ALREADY have that mentality at work. I still have the option of returning to construction Millwright work. Don't really want to, but will do what needs to be done. Missed riding with you this winter my friend ;)!
