Ok , been riding for 30 years or so , always running 2-smokes cause thats all there was ! So NOW my friggen Brother buys a 05 RX-1 .... its quite awesome !! Now I think I want to add a 4 stroker to the stable!
Onto my questions ............
how many different chassis does Yamaha build ?
What does "RS" designate ?
What does FX designate ?
Apex , Vector , RX , Venture , Warrior , are these all same chassis?
Thanks Guys sorry to be such a dummy , just trying to sort the all out !

Yamaha currently has 3 Chassis The Apex ( new RX1 ) The Nytro ( FX ) and Phazer. The RS is a venture model and the FX is the Nytro. The Nytro is a rider forward race like ergonomics sled made for big bumps and air with a 3 cyl motor lots of torque with limited top end stock. The Apex is the ultimate trail sled 4 cyl motor with lots of power on top end as well. The Nytro Vector and venture all have the 1049 cc 3 cyl motor as far as I know the clutching is different on them which differentiates their purpose. Now The RX1 when first came out was just that an RX 1 but then they came out with the Warrior which was a long track version 144 inch track. Then came the Apex a redesigned RX1 better motor still 1000cc 4 cyl better chassis suspension etc etc. The Apex Attack is a 136 inch long track version. Now there is the Apex SE, std Apex and Apex XTX. SE has fox float air shocks 128 inch track, std has hpg shocks and the XTX is a 144 inch track with dual ck shocks. Basically there is just new technology available in the new models if you look on the website it is all out lined there. 2003-2005 is the RX design, 2006-2010 is the New Apex design and the 2011-2013 is the newest versions. From 2006 -2010 there is the Apex GT, RTX and ER, GT has gytr shocks up front and Ohlin's electronic control in the rear, RTX has fox floats in the front and hpg? in the rear I believe which has a manual adjust. ER is just Electric start and Reverse which all pretty much have that. Some models don't have reverse. That is the basics if there is anything I missed I'm sure people will add to this. Hope it helps. Please add your location to your profile it is always nice to see where people are from. Thanks!

Anything I can do to help/contribute to this great site.
Just keep in mind this site is great for helping with repairs and things to watch out for I'll sum them up for you in order of my own personal experience.
Exhaust donut wear, Titaninium Y pipe damage and cracks so be sure to listen for any back firing and exhaust leaks can be very subtle mine sounded like a ticking underneath gas tank. Stainless exhaust can crack as well. Fuel relay freezing in -20 Celsius weather. Pull out middle relay on left side blow on it to warm it up and put back in sled will start up. That or put hair dryer in foot well on left side. These are issues with the Apex and ones that I had with mine so far. I love the sled but I have definitely gotten disappointed this season with these issues so far. I am going to have to do steering bushings and get a Yamaheater for next season, handlebars are loose and the hand warmers are not warm enough and I've been hearing good things about Yamaheater product. Do your research before buying a sled and like I said a lot of things are on here already just have to look for them. Oh and btw welcome to the site!

Didn't one of the snowmo magazines recently have a quick rundown of Yamaha's history of making sleds. I thought it was a pretty good article. Wife must have thrown it out.
OP, what were your previous sleds? Just for comparison.

Being an old guy myself, I prefer the RS type chassis as it is more like the old sleds we used to drive. You seen to sit lower and it feels like there is more machine in front of you. The rider forward chassis feels like you are on top, sort of like a motorcycle. I guess it depends on your riding.

So how old, is old. I,m 63 and have a 2007 Apex RTX, and love it. Nothing like going out for the day, and not having to worry whether your sled will be able to make it home on it,s own, or at the end of a tow rope. I,ve had 4 strokes for 3 years now, and it feels great. There,s way more to sledding than top speed, and lake running. Reliability and comfort has become my number 1 priority, and the Yamaha 4 strokes are among the best, in that area. Now if they would only come out with the 500 lb, 200 HP that Chris Reid from Yamaha keeps hinting about, I would try to be young again.
Please Chris, hurry this dream up, before I spend all my retirement money. LOL

Murse summed it up quite well, except the Apex did not get a better motor. Its the same motor with a few refinements. Fuel injection and redesigned crankcase breather system being the largest difference all other differences through to present day are performance tweaks more or less. Some would argue that the 03 RX1 was and is the fastest of them all! 03 to 05 had carbs and redesigned rings every year.
I only bring this up because the way it reads could make on think that the Apex motor is a new motor.

#1apexrider , I am only 45 , but I fell like I'm 70! I have battled a crushed nerve in my hip area this past summer and I fell like I have aged 50 years in the last 6 months!
I am leaning towards a RS Venture , I want to run a long track but don't need it for the mountain or big powder I do a bit of grooming in my area. I think it would work great with a simple pipe drag behind it. I would plan to remove the entire back / passenger seat and backrest unit and build a nice rack and hitch unit back there.
Again thanks to all for the great info !

The warrior was 136, not 144. 05 was the year that yamaha replaced the rings to stop oil burning. The apex engine does rev quicker because of a lighter crank. But is the same engine with FI. The RS also consisted of the Vector and Rage which utilized the 3 cyclinder engine that indeed did set lower in the chassis because it did not need the gear reduction. That engine was designed from the ground up for the sled and reved lower than the 4 cyclinder so gear reduction was not needed. That engine also gets better fuel economy. Look for a Rage or the Vector LTX which replaced the Rage when they changed the plastic body panels.

Good job Murse just 1 thing on the shocks HGP are a Ski-Doo name but am pretty sure they are renamed KYB's on the Doo. My sled '07 Apex RTX has KYB's in the rear and is considered a CK twin shock skid that continued into '09. RTX's are tricky because in their first year in '06 they had the float fronts but a monoshock rear. Newer Yams now have Soqi shocks.

gr8lite. You feel 70,,I am 70 and feel 60, also my daughter says that 70 is the new 60, so I'm going with that.. I also rode 2 stroke Polaris for over 30 years but they don't make a sled I like. I want to sit down and enjoy the ride not stand up.. I really like my new RS Vector LTX. I only have 3300 miles so far, but very happy with it. Good ride and good MPG.. The Venture is a 2 up sled..Ak Yammy said:Good job Murse just 1 thing on the shocks HGP are a Ski-Doo name but am pretty sure they are renamed KYB's on the Doo.
