Hi Guys,

I didn't know where else to post this, so here goes... which brand/type of balaclava are you guys wearing with your moto-x helmets? I have an HJC ACX2 helmet for moto. I've taped off all of the vents and I bought a pretty pricey pair of Scott's snow goggles with the extra foam and the nose air deflector. The problem is that the area of my face to the sides and the top of the goggles still gets way too cold. I'm only wearing one of those cheap balaclavas with the neoprene face. Only problem is the rest of the material around the eyes is not neoprene and it's way too thin. I really want to make this work... I hate wearing my regular helmet. Anyhow, just wondering what everyone is wearing... what you guys have tried... what balaclavas you may have liked or disliked... etc?

Thanks,
Tom

The new klim looks like a great one. It is however 50 bucks. i have the old style klim and it works good too. Maxdlx

Ive always worn Yamaha's baclavias with no issues. You may want to look into if you can get a breath deflector for your helmet though. Thats going to do a better job of keeping your face warm that the noseguard on your goggles will.

I have the same helmet, I use the scott voltage goggles with the yamaha no fog mask and an old yamaha beanie. The beanie fits just right to cover the area your talking about being exposed. Any thin beanie would work ...

I have seen people use duct tape to tape off the exposed area.

Keep trying different things ... it took a little while for me to find the perfect set up. I would never wear anything but a moto helmet!

I have the same helmet also. You can see it in my avatar. You definitely need the nose guard that snaps in the helmet under the cheek pad and velcro's to the front of the nose piece. It will keep your face much warmer than the guard on the goggles. With that nose piece I just use regular anti fog coated goggles most the time, nothing special. Though when it is real cold I do have a set of double pained goggles I use. Then I just use the regular balaclava with my moto helmet. The ones that are thin on top with the thicker fussy bottom. Nothing special. Works real good for me down to about 0 degrees F. Once it starts to get below that it starts to get cold and there is not much you can do but get a different helmet that's not a moto style.

the cold weather one is called UNWIND SYSTEM it works amazing and its about 50 bucks and also if you buy a sledding goggle (scott, smith or spy) it has wider foam at the edges and usually comes with a nose peice for extra coverage

This is what I am using and it works pretty good inside my Oneal MX helmet. I scabbed in an HJC breath deflector as well and use the Scott snowmobile goggles with the dual pane lens that changes color depending on brightness.

I am riding this year for the first time with a m/x style helmet and am growing to love it. I have a pair of scott snowmobile googles(high voltage)a scorpion spitfire helmet with the mouth attachment, and I use a R U outside balaclava that was like 40-50 bucks. I dont have any issues with this setup so far tested to -5 degrees, but when it gets warmer like in the 20's the balaclava is too warm and I run a general thin one. that is fine for the warmer days. With these googles I have had no problem with fogging or anything.

I use the same HJC helmet with the snout box and generally wear a Mountain Hardwear fleece balaclava with good results. I use Oakley snow goggles and as long as the balaclava is under the goggle foam everything is good to go.

You may want to compare the density of the foam used on different brands of goggles too. Maybe you're getting a lot of air flow through the foam on your Scotts.

Another thing; make sure the opening in the balaclava is towards the front when you put your helmet on.

Motoman765, is there an HJC breath deflector designed specifically for the ACX2?

Yea their was but I don't think it's a current offered product anymore. I bought a after market one for mine after the foam wore off my original HJC one that I got with my helmet. And it's actually a better one than the original and fits real good. If I get a chance and remember I'll look to see what brand the replacement one I got is and let you know.
