My 03 RX-1 rides like crap and I'm on a $300 budget. Bang for the buck, which is the best way to go? Should I install a cat skid, polaris skid, or should I upgrade my proaction skid? I can buy a rear shock from Maximum Performance for $369 or from Pioneer Performance for $275. Do these improve ride enough to justify expense, or should I buy a used skid for the same money. Does a cat skid scrub topend?

I put an SC10 III in my 03. I looks great and wasnt too difficult to install. My totall investment was $380. I have a pic posted in the general RX section. I plan to ride a few miles on Friday or Sat, then we will see how she rides. From what I have seen the cat skid does not reduce top end at all.

I installed a ZR skid in my 03 and the ride is much better. The install is pretty easy also. I got the template off this web site.

Shocks

Thanks, NY Warrior, but I'm too late as I just read your post. Can anyone tell me which shock would be better Pioneer or Maximum Performance?

I installed 02 edge skid in my 03 RX1 last year put on over 1000 miles & love it. I think I'm going to lower the back of the sled about a 1" or more to move some weight off the front plus it sits a little high in the rear

I installed a 05 firecat 128" skid in my 03 for drag racing. Then I found out that I could get a 128 x 15 ripsaw and that pushed me over the edge and I kept the AC skid in it.

I love the Cat skid in mine, and it does more than make it ride MUCH better. It also got it to corner much better as well. It now corners very flat, without ski lift. I don't know the connection, but a couple other people I have talked to that put Cat skids under their RX's noticed the same thing.

I don't think upgrading shocks will completely fix the Yamaha skid. There is still the weak W arm, lack of easy adjustments, and you can only improve the ride a little with better shocks, because the real problem is the suspension design.

I put a 136" 2000 T-Cat skid in mine and the difference in the ride, transfer and handling is profound. It's like a whole new sled. My ski pressure has increased so it is railing the corners well, however when I want transfer it's there. I'd recomend it to anybody. Oh, And my total investment was $400.

Yup, thats exactly what I found. One thing I like is the progressiveness of the suspension. I don't have to keep adjusting it for slight changes in condition...it works well whether I'm on a high speed trail with big G-outs, or smaller chatter bumps...it soaks them all up with ease. And like you, the transfer is unbelievable! If I sit normally, I can slide through the corners with a bit of track spin. But as soon as I move my weight back slightly, it squats a bit, hooks up, and tears out of the corners.

I have A 2005 Polaris IQ sno-x rear skid. The comparison between it and stock it leather couch type ride compared to A picnic table type ride. I also installed the matching walker evans front shock that are apox. 2" longer than stock huge improvement.
