Northern WI gets the best start to the sledding season in years with an unusual amount of early cold & snow and we have to wait until Dec 16th for trails to open!
I completely understand private landowners not wanting sledders running across their property for the Antlerless hunt, but the DNR should schedule the hunt earlier in the month - like the week after the normal gun season.
I also realize that is muzzleloader season, but there is no reason the 2 can't overlap. Bow season overlaps with other hunting seasons - big deal.
Now a potential 15 week season is automatically shortened by one or two weeks. Total Bummer!
Where can we make our voices heard on this matter???

I agree it sucks, but bow season is still open till at least the end of the year and the land owners could make us stay off longer . Dont want to tic them off

alot of lakes and swamps are not even frozen over yet, riding trails now is just going to tear up property, and have more owners mad. wait it out.

I suppose you could try talking to someone at the AWSC http://www.awsc.org/ But the reality is there is nothing you can do but grin and bare it. Even if you got 100% participation from interested parties, I would imagine the number of hunters outweighs the number of snowmobilers by quite a bit.

As for hunting seasons, I'm in the minority I'm sure. I feel you should be able shoot them at any time of the year with any type of weapon. I enjoy a venison hot stick as much as anyone but after hitting 2 of them with snowmobiles, I feel like they are rats with antlers.

stuff will be good and frozen by the time the 15th comes by the looks of it, pray for snow!! till then and ride like hell till march...

Yeah, unfortunately my enthusiasm gets in the way of logic at times. The extra time will really help freeze everything up and give clubs a chance to groom. I just checked and found out Sawyer county is currently open and Hurley area set to open Dec 11, so I guess I spoke to soon!

Ya read that they never close !! Ill have to remember that .

Exactly. It's not a big deal when you take this major factor. I was all set to go muzzleloader hunting but I got my deer opening weekend of the regular season.

Even if the trails and lakes are all good after all the deer hunting is done, it still will be one of the earliest season openers for sledding.

Some trails are open

Some of the corridor trails are open and grooming should be starting tomorrow. Alot of trails through swampy areas are going be awhile yet.

trails by me are groomed, north of eagle river.

lakes are already being ice fished on since the 27th around e.r. & minocqua area.

everything is good to go after the groomers went around for the trail cleanup again.

woke up to -10 this morning.

Last year in the U.P. of Michigan we had snow past the close of the season and the gromers were done, it was the insurance that stoped them fom grooming past the date not money. To each season time to ride, let the hunters hunt and you'll have your time.
