I still have the Yamaha provided rear heat exchanger for my RX-1M sitting in the garage. It came from my dealer free of charge with all the mounting rivets and the instructions on how to install it on the sled.
The problem is, I can't make myself add anymore weight to the sled! I believe that by bleeding the cooling system, adding water wetter to my coolant and installing scratchers to my rails I have defeated any overheating problems.
I am thinking that if I were to have the overheating issues occur again I would bend up a W shaped rear crossover pipe and install it further back into the tunnel extension (where the snow actually hits it) vs putting on the rear heat exchanger.
What are your thoughts or should the heat exchanger end up on E bay for someone who really wants it?

Oh yeah, one more thing I forgot to put in my original post.
Since drilling holes in your track looks like it may increase the amount of snow that gets to rear suspension for slide rail lubrication what effect does it have on engine cooling?
In other words; would drilling holes in your track increase engine cooling efficiency?

On snowest they have claimed about 15' drop in operating temps for the engine after drilling holes. I had the heat xchanger installed before and definitely needed it. However, since swapping the skid, drilling the holes, changing the fluid to 50/50, it has not yet needed it. That is good because with my tunnel extension it won't fit without some mods. However, so far this year I have been in pretty good powder not icy conditions.

I have installed the exchanger and it makes a world of difference.

Thanks guys, I like the track hole idea but when I think about resale value of a sled with a holey track or a holey track itself I wonder how the future will look on this modification?
Maybe I'll just hang on to it for awhile longer just in case we have another less than stellar winter.

I crawled under my sled today and now I see exactly why Yamaha made the cooler like they did. It makes sense now that I have actually looked and see the wisdom of their design.
I plan to keep it around as insurance.
