3" over and you would have taken the oil pan out on the stand off. Yamaha should really step up and put a skid plate on. The inspection cover is really no match for anything!

In 03 Sumpbuster hit a stump and took out the whole engine. On the bottom of the engine is a couple flanges that hang down close to the trap door. They were used to hold it on the assembly line. He snapped one off and claimed he hardly hit anything, A mile up the trail all his lights start flashin and his motor was cooked. Seems like he said 3500$ to get it fixed! Man that sucks. Anyway he and many others, (Myself inclued) installed a 1/4 inch aluminum diamond plate to the bottom of the trap door. 11x15 inchs I think. If anyone cares let me know and I'll go measure mine. That will install over the whole bottom of motor, using the bolts for the trap door to hold it in place.Covers the whole flat area.

That is a great ides...I'll just put nutzerts in the four corners so it can be removed. Little bigger to cover the slight bend in the cooler. :-o
