Klotz 4stroke snowmobile oil, expensive, but after flawless operation beating the @*#^ out of my two smokes, I would be crazy to use anything else. If this was not available, I would use Mobil 1 after many years of killer luck in my vette and trucks.

I would like someone to show me one test where dino oil performs better than synthetic. Come on if you are using oil synthetic is not going to fix mechanical problems such as rings that are shot. If your engine is sound it will stay that way longer with synthetic, start easier, run cooler with better protection in both cold and hot weather. I also agree that if you change your oil lots then synthetic is not needed unless it is very cold.

I know I have never said dino oil was BETTER than synthetic, but it can be as good in some circumstances, such as the wingnuts that try to run the synthetics for 25,000 miles in their cars before changing it. I would say that depending on conditions and the vehicle, I might let synthetic go 10,000 miles before a change. Then again, depending on conditions, its been proven that the 3,000 mile reccomended change interval is more frequent than necessary for dino oil in some conditions.
Those were facts. Now for my opinion. On my RX, I haven't let the synthetic go past 2,000 miles. In fact, its closer to 1,000 or 1500 between the couple of synthetic changes I did. I do this because this engine has lots of blowby (putting much more contaminants in the oil); the engine runs at 9,000+ RPMs for long periods unlike a car running 2,000-3,000 average; and our sleds get a lot more abuse, cold weather, etc. than typical automotive engines. Synthetic also protects MUCH better during starting in cold temps, and helps the engine turn over MUCH better.
No matter what you use, oil is cheap- change it often. If you change dino oil once a year, it costs you about $5-$10 for the year (not counting the filter). If you change synthetic twice a year, it costs you around $40 a YEAR. Come on, $40 is less than many of you spend on beer after a long day of riding. Not that I'm suggesting those for intervals, just comparing costs.

Me too last fall. Just added 1/2 qt after 1000miles on my last ride. I did use Seafoam in one tank..
I may go with Mobil 5/30 because I can get 5 qt jug for much less and others have been using it ok.

Just finished changing oil in both my rx-1's and let me tell you I am glad I only have to do that once a year. They sure had their heads up their you know what when they put the filter where it is. Even the chain case is braindead location for the drain plug why there when the side panel is off anyhow. On the bright side the Mar-Lift sure works nice for this job and for inspecting and greasing the sled.

If you do the battery relocation, it makes changing the oil a snap plus you get rid of that stupid bracket + the weight of it.
