Been looking around for one and they are hard to find. Why did they stop making them? I see the still make a chrome and a red chrome? Has anyone cut down a chrome windscreen?

They were not that big of a seller, only seen two on sleds. I don't think you would want to cut it, the chrome may flake when cutting.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, that it might flake. I'm suprised that they didn't sell very much? for a black n Blue apex, I thought they look pretty good.

Why wont they make a blue windscreen? I have a small fourtune in buying, painting, and maintaining mine. I have two coats of Yamaha blue and two coats of clear on there and I still get ice chips knocking paint off. My vote is for a medium height blue windshield.

Welcome to the corporate world, where the bean counters rule. It's not what's cool or works, it's what's selling and what's not. If it's not making money them money, then it's not worth the time for them, or so the bean counters think. Pure ice cold logic......

Who knows, maybe the blue dye doubled in price, so they had to cancel the blue ones..... ;-)

Did you start with a stock size/style one? Which side did you paint- I have heard that most people paint the inside of the windshield, maybe that would prevent the ice chipping etc.? Because the screen is clear you must not be able to to tell which side the paint is on, I don't know but I know they have looked good in pictures...

I painted the inside of the windshild. I've been painting them black for years, back to the SX days with the smaller windshields; never had a problem until I did this blue one. I bought the 2010 model Apex LTX GT windshield with the blue and white skirting, then painted the clear plastic blue. Every hard ice chip or clump knocks paint off.

Paint

This works very well for me:

My brother is into RC car racing big time. They paint their plastic bodies from the inside with RC paint. It is specifically made to adhere to plastic.
I just painted my 2011 red xtx windshield candy red just like the sled. Looks awesome.
The trick is after you paint the red on then the silver backing to make the candy have the metallic I use water base wood clear to seal it so it will not rub off on the back. Use water base because that is also what the RC paint is and then there is no reaction.
Also being painted on the inside there are no snow/ice chips. Just make sure the surface is very clean before you start.

RC colors come in some awesome colors and they also make chrome.

Remember to take it off during the summer if store in the trailer in the sun. The chrome WILL flake off.
