Why go Tek Vest? Here is a better alternative:

Ok, first things first. You guy's need to tone down the comments. Rules state to be respectful. Have seen a couple post's that are definitely not in that category. ANY protection is better than none. Much like any other thread asking for opinions, this one will draw out many that some won't agree with. Let the thread starter make HIS decision based on OTHER opinions. Ok, off mod hat, on sledder hat, LOL. I wear my Tekvest on the outside of my coat for one reason only. My wife ordered it to large for me. I really don't think it matters if you wear it inside or outside, WEAR IT!! I have a houseful of kids (SEVEN) that depend on me for more than just a paycheck, so I wear one. Just remember, ANY protection is better than NOTHING!!

I wear mine under my jacket. It makes me look bigger...LOL

Oh and what Dave said WEAR IT!!!!!!!!

You mabey in control but that deer does not know it should not cross trails when sleds are on the trail.... Or that yahoo comming around a blind corner WAYYYYYY to fast and on your side of the trail with no where to go..

i wear mine on inside but it doesnt matter how you wear it.just order proper size depending on how you want to wear it....over or under your jacket.

my opinion on tek vest vs hockey gear is why would you want to cheap out on something that can save your life and protect from injury.if you look at how much you spend on your sled and stuff to make it go faster and look pretty.....why not spend acouple extra bucks and know your being protected with something designed to protect you from a snowmobile ?

if guys want tek vests i can throw a deal together to save you extra money and know that your protected right.

mmm...did i hear group buy? Tell me more!

I ride quads and I know that the tek-vest viper dave had on when I rode with him was much superior. Full protect all the way around. And as for hockey protection it is better then most motorcross chest protectors I have seen.

So I would do the hockey one before a standard motorcross one. And if you have the money the tek-vest is worth the money.

As for floating, the hockey vest is constructed with outer foam and would help with floatation also.

Group Deal?

I don't think it is someone that Wants to go the cheaper route but maybe they see it as some is better than none or maybe they can't justify $299 for the best protection but might be able to justify $100 for maybe hopfully good enough protection... (I hope it is good enough when and if its ever needed.) I still would like see them compared.
It's kind of like buying a DOT helmet vs a SNELL helmet one is better rated and the other is generally cheaper.
BUT nether will protect you if you don't wear them.

That said, Did someone say "Group Deal"?? ;)!
:rocks:

Which is better Safe Jac or Tek vest?

if you know what models you would like i can throw some package's together.let me know.thanks

I would suggest anyone that wants a tekvest, find somone
nearby that owns one(or a store) so you can try it on first.

I originally ordered a Large, and it was too big(couldn't even
cinch it down to fit. I ended up with a Small I believe.
I'm 190lbs

Absolutely the best investment, I wear it underneath
then in the spring I wear it alone with a sweatshirt or
whatever under it.

My vote would be for TekVest. I believe the thickness of the plactic on the TekVest is greater. I would even guess maybe twice. This might also be a lesson in force too. A 6 oz. puck at 90 mph, which hockey pads are designed for, imparts a lot less force then when you hitting a deer or rock at 50 mph. In all honesty, I feel more safe with the thicker protection of the TekVest. Personally, $100-$200 price is not a big deal to me, I save that much money in 2 stroke oil. :4STroke:
If you contact TekVest directly you might be able to save $100-$50 on last years model. I got a really good deal on mine last year at Haydays directly from TekVest for last years model.

Also I wear my vest under my jacked. I do get a lot comments about looking like a football player :-) In my Avitar, I'm wearing mine under my jacket. That was my first ride with it on and I will never ride without it again.
:rocks: Thinking of snow.

i went to the milwaukee snow show to buy a tek-vest and was very unimpresed with the ones i saw, i weigh 250 and none of the fit good and they just seemed cheap im going to the ice arena to look at chest protectors tomorrow

OK, so I'll jump into this............

I have all three since I play hockey, ride dirt bikes, and of course, sleds.

The roost protector is simply that....for small rock and light impact protection...and very inexpensive. The hockey gear is set up for high impact and some penetration resistence. I think my TekVest is set up for moderate impact resistence but higher penetration resistence than the hockey pads.

The extra padding in the right hockey pads will absorb a lot of energy in an impact and probably hold off a penetration in doing so. The Tek was designed to minimize penetration but I think you'll feel the hit more.

Think about hitting a tree or another sled broadside. I'd want the hockey pads. Then think about hitting the END of a thick branch on that tree or end of the handlebars on another sled. I'd probably want the TekVest.

I wear each as they were intended, but that's my choice. If you're not racing a sanctioned event then it really doesn't matter. Like most say here, SOMETHING is better than NOTHING! ;)!
