Looking for opinions guys. I'm looking to get a sled for myself. Last year I bought my girl a ZR 7000 and I really enjoy the Yamaha motor. I'm looking to pick up a nytro for my self and was wondering if you guys think I'll like the nytro compared to the pro cross chassis. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Nytros seem to have a cult following, you either love it or hate it. I have an 09 RTX Se and after I installed the hurricane hindle kit with clutching and adjusted the suspension to my liking it is awesome. A Nytro without the steering mod like the "Oft relocater" is not very enjoyable to steer, after the mod it's awesome.

Tough question to answer cause it's such a personal thing. What are you looking for and what kind of riding do you do??
People have to remember that the Nytro was Yamaha's version of a ditch banging snow cross sled. Its super fun if you like to ride it hard. It has twitchy handling, has jerky clutching but pulls very hard down low and is a workout to ride. That being said, it's the perfect sled for me and crazy fun to ride!! The torque of the engine is just awesome in that chassis.
I think too many people who should be riding a smoother Vector on the trails buy the Nytro by mistake. They end up being disappointed cause they can't ride it effortlessly all day and they expect it to ride like a Vector but that's not what it's designed for. So if you ride all day on smooth trails and look at the scenery, I would NOT recommend the Nytro. If you hit the ditches, ride hard, and enjoy off trail then the Nytro is for you.
These are just my opinions on the sled, hopefully they can help you but just keep in mind what Yamaha built the Nytro for.

Very interesting points there. I've had 3 skidoo race sleds and 2 skidoo XRS model sleds up until this point. Besides a couple of cats for the GF. I'm really looking for a 4-stroke ditch banger that's more reliable then the 2 smokes. I've ridden an XTX nytro before and I liked it, but I don't think I liked the longer track. I'm a short tracker. Thinking a newer nytro rtx(2011-newer). The pro cross chassis I have for the GF is a very nice riding sled and I love the torque of the motor, but being in the north east I can't justify buying another new sled. If you think a nytro with fit me then that's what I'll look for.

From the sleds you've owned before, I'd say the Nytro should be right up your alley! The XTX you rode before should not feel that much different than the short track thanks to the tipped up rail. I'd say go for it, there are lots of great deals on Nytros, see what you can find and keep us posted!

Look for an Rtx 2010 or newer, by the types of sleds you rode the nytro Rtx won't disappoint.

I'm on the look out now. Are there any differences between the. 2011-2013 Nytro RTX sleds? What pitch and tooth drivers do these sleds run as well? Thanks for the help.

The Nytro is a very respectable sled - my biggest upgrade was putting a better ski on it. Once I had that licked - it behaved really well - no nervousness, no twitch, no dart and limited push when cornering. The Fx chassis feels entirely different from the apex and vector's rs chassis. I can ride a nytro all day cause your legs are extended and you can stand easily. I always found riding the vec and apex in a trapped position that became uncomfortable after a day of riding. My buddies have Vipers and it is a great sled. But after all the upgrades to my nytro I have it pretty much like a viper now. haha. One comment about the viper, is that it carries the weight of the motor way better than the nytro. That is why upgrading the ski on the nytro is a must. MS

I found the tuners with square bar 6" to 8" carbide worked great on my nitro rtx se. Every once in awhile I miss the nytro I actually find it a little more nimble in certain conditions compared to the viper. Might call me crazy but I do.

test drive one before you buy, if you like the zr/viper platform, you probably wont want to go to the nytro

I spent the last 2 seasons on a nytro and this season so far on the viper. There are screaming deals on nytros out there. For 4-5k you can get a low mileage great sled. I do prefer the viper but I also paid 9500 for it. If you get the nytro, there are a handful of little things to do. Replace the fuel pump relay, upgrade hand warmers, check for wire rub on main harness, etc. These issues are all documented on nytro section faq. It is a beast of a sled. Upgrade the skis, adjust shocks based on info here, and do the other preventative stuff and you have one of the best values on the snow. That motor is a true masterpiece. I'd argue it has to be one of the best all around snowmobile motors ever produced.

You got her a ZR 7000.... same engine, FAR & AWAY a better chassis than the FX.
Why not a Viper for yourself?

If I could find a good deal, then maybe. I got her a ZR because it was a smoking deal that I couldn't pass. But I'm still seeing leftover Nytro RTXs go for more then what I bought her ZR for. I don't think I could find a viper for anywhere close to that. Plus I've always liked the looks of the nytro. I'd like to be able buy a sled and have a little cash left over to put into skis and an exhaust right away.

Sounds like a good plan!! Keep us posted on what you are finding!
