I am looking for opinions.

I have always loved the sound of the 4-cyl apex engine and always wanted one.
BUT what holds me back from buying one is the style of riding that i like to do.

Im in the market to pay about $4000-$5000 for a sled that i am planning on keeping for about 1-2 years...at which point i want to buy a 2010+ sled.

i owned a 2008 nytro RTX last season and loved it.
my riding style is 60% trails and 40% ditch banging.
if im on a trail and come up to a road approach ill hit it at 60mph and usually land at the bottom of the next ditch. (ie: completely clearing the approach)

SO...for my $4000-$5000 budget in my local market i have narrowed it down to a 2004-2006 model year.

If i get an apex will it serve my riding style or will i be disappointed in the chassis and only love the engine?

opinions?

thanks!!

Apex is a great trail sled. Not designed for ditch banging. I know some do it but the few times I have done it it was not a lot of fun. Just my opinion. Still the sound and power of the 4 banger is addicting. If they made a Nytro with the Apex engine I would be all over it.

The Apex will do anything! How bad you're gonna break it upon landing is maybe a different story. I have seriously abused my RTX with minimal skid failure.
I ride aggressively but can't say that I purposely try to clear roadways. I've hit some big stuff at sick speed and gotten away with it. IMO, the Apex's are awesome trail sleds with the ability to do almost anything the rider has the skill or balls to try.
If you buy one, I recommend an RTX. I dont think the Mono RA is as rugged (although they ride nicer)
You may be surprised ,if you buy an Apex, to find yourself enjoying more trail and less ditch. I've ridden the Nytro and would rather bang around on it than cover miles.

I would also suggest the RTX for you... BUT if you Buy an RTX you have to buy an 07 or newer... The 06 RTXs have the Mono skid in them stock. Just a fyi.

X2, They can do anything you want if setup right. But to get it there could cost you some cash. The Apex is one of the best trails sleds out there and great for off trail to. Its all about setup and what you are willing to pay to get it. If I were you I would look for a 06 nytro wish I still had one.

hehhe...I AGREE...:)
i wouldnt even be asking this question if the nytro had a 4-cyl in it....id be all over it too!!
:)
Ever consider buying an Apex & doing a suspension swap? If you can get a good deal on a used suspension you will have the best of both worlds..... awesome motor + suspension :)

I'm on a 2007 apex rtx and thinking of swapping to the nytro so I can ditch bang. I know I'll miss the apex motor but I need more suspension with my style of riding. It's funny were both thinking of swapping platforms. I guess the grass is not always greener!

i actually wrote off my 2008 nytro; hit the bush on a corner that i was trying to take too fast.
sheared off a 6"x30foot tree.
barely bent the frame (ie: still very rideable...hardly noticable bend), bent front bumper, broken hand guard ,windshield, brake lever, and handlebars....thats all!
I rode it out of there actually.

Sadly that ended my season: dislocated my right hand index finger. its been 6 weeks and i JUST got the pins out now...3 months to go before i regain full motion in it...:(

SO...this decision is all about what im riding next year!
hehe!

I completely dissagree with the comparison between the nytro vrs apex,IMO and the two people we rode with last weekend,it is all apex vrs nytro,we rode a variety of terrain, rough trail soft snow, twisty smooth and hard trails, not once did the nytro out perform the apex gt or apex rtx both sleds 06 models, and both nytro 08 one rtx other 40th ann. with gyt shocks. Power, top speed and accellration all go to apex, handling all apex, ride all apex, but we did not have 3 foot moguls,we did have some 2 footers, for a 15 mile section, and even there i could pass either nytro at any time, and my gt has a bad rear shock that has over 6000 miles on it. So for 5 grand or maybe a little less you can get an apex,i have had two of the gt;s and once the shocks are revalved they rock,my sons 06 rtx is an other great apex of choice, but the fox floats you either love um or hate them, but my sled does have a new small lug track that helps it slide thru the turns very well, and even though it is a 1" vrs the 1.25 ripsaw on my boys rtx,i can still walk away from him, even top end he is 6-10 sleds off,and mine runs 128-132 on preety hard trails, and better on bare ice.

check out the classifieds, there are apexs in your price range. My Nephew just bought an 07 GT for 4200 bucks! Thats alot a machine for that money!
