Winder service issues!

I just helped my buddy service his winder and omg wasn't that fun. Who decided to put the oil tank drain there?? What a moron! The last thing we have to do is chaincase oil and this procedure looks ridiculous. Why on earth is there no drain plug?? Do we really have to tear the sled half apart and split the case just to drain the oil? Is there an easier way? And people thought an Apex oil change was a pain! I'm sticking with my Apex for quite awhile after today.

Owning an Arctic Cat built Sidewinder is like marrying a hot blonde border-line playboy model.
Fast & beautiful, but a PAIN in the ARSE!
I fell for the 'Winder & love the ride & speed.

I pay for all the Cat issues, but am having waaaaay tooooo much fun.
I pay the Ex-wife..................$1200 a month.

I love speed & good rides...

Damn seemed like a good idea
I tried the lazy way but after taking cover off you really do want to look in there and clean the magnets and check that the chain tensioner screws are not coming out like mine and many others. Less than 1300 miles on mine

Lol Steve you need to come to Wisconsin and ride you sound like one hell of guy to ride with!!

Drilling and replacing the rivets on the lower body panel is a must. Once done....everything becomes extremely easy. I am so pleased with the result, I’ve been converting other sleds too.

I’ve done other chain cases on Cats and Doos....but never the SW. Simply didn’t have enough miles on it. After reading about the concern about tensioner screw....I cut my baby open. Even with everything dumping out by my own fault, it was still easy, and back together in no time flat.

At the same time, I tore the Apex down because of no start/ no fuel. I’ll never go back to that crazy #*$&@ on re assembly. You have to rip the whole freaking thing apart to even look at the battery.

We replaced the chaincase oil today and it was a joy as expected. We were not able to buy a torx T50 ball end tool anywhere. Nobody around here had even heard of such a thing. There is no way of getting those exhaust bolts out without one. We ended buying a T50 on a socket and cutting the end off and using a 3/8 wrench to turn the little stub end. How dam freaking hard is it to put a drain plug in?? How about a fill hole hole so you don't have to tear the reverse apart to add oil?? These servicability issues are completely ridiculous! Screw off Artic Crap!

Vise grip. Then replace that exhaust bolt with the same one that Yamaha used for years on their Apex and Vectors that holds the flex pipe to cylinder head.
