I missed the memo on ski shims .. LOL.. and installed a set of 4" Woody's Dual runner skegs.
Now the sled handles so bad it's sick-nin.
Going straight is great (no darting) BUT, it will not turn at all unless I sit on top the handle bars or get of the gas completly.
Can I adjust the transfer rod or limiter strap on the MonoShock to help this problem?
I've used these skegs before on my 02 Venture & 01 SRX with great luck, but it doesn't seem to be right on the 07 Rage GT

Take off the Woodys and replace them with Stud Boy Deuce bars. Some guys will tell you Bergstrom tripple points also. You could also try tightening up the front springs on the shocks or tightening up the limiter strap one hole.
Is this sled new or new to you?

I keep reading about people having darting issues with RS sleds. Is it with the stock 4" carbides? I switched out the stock carbides on my new 07 Rage GT with 6" Stud Boy shaper bars before it ever saw snow. I have ridden 700 miles on all kids of trails and off trail and have been really happy with how it steers. No real darting issues. G.B.

On the mono skid adjust your transfer rod to one line toward max from std. You have tools to do this in your tool kit. It has worked wonders for my sled, transfer is dead on, minimum ski lift and minimum spinning. I also softened up the front shocks just till the springs wouldn't rattle when unloaded (measure from the top of the threads to the top of the spring I believe the measurement was around 3 3/8) this keeps the inside ski lift to a minimum. I never touched the limiter strap. I still have very minimal darting at slow speed (between 5-15 mph) but goes away as soon as you get above 15.
Again this works for me I don't know if it will work for you.

DaJudge,
Yes this sled is new and new to me.
Do you know what tools I need to do the limiter straps, as the sled is parked 300 miles and tough to see from here...LOL
Goneblue,
I took the 4" off (they where bad) and put on Woodys Dooly's that are worse

Does putting transfer rod one line to max from std increase or decrease ski pressure?

Woody are not that bad, you have to set your suspension up properly , I run 6 " Dullies and at first they were horrible but after lots of adjustments with my suspension , my sled handles pretty good, I am sure that there is better out there .......

I have not made any adjustments to the limiter on mine, so I am guessing that the bolts will need two 10mm wrenches. Changing the transfer rod adjustment can take weight off or leave weight on the skis only when you have opened the throttle, thats why they call it the "transfer rod".
All of the settings on the rear and front should be listed in the owners manual. You can also find them on this site in the TY Tech section. Sometimes a dealer just has them assembled and dont make it right for the person who bought the sled. If your dealer is close, you can also ask him for help. He should have had it done for you when you bought it.
You should have all of the tooles in the tool compartment in the front of the sled. Good luck, sometimes making the RIGHT adjustments make all the difference in how the sleds handle and ride. Just remember, make small adjustments. The Mono doesnt like big changes and you can dial it into a very ill handling machine very easy, but it sounds like you are already there.
I just thought of another thing that could cause your problem. How much do you weigh? if you are a "Big Boy", 200LBS +, you may have to got to a bigger spring. If you are a big guy, you may have too much "sit in". That is when you sit too deep in the rear suspension. Too much sit in will also take weight off of the skis.

DaJudge, Your last point about sled set up at the dealer is key. I asked my dealer when I bought my Rage about setting it up to my weight. They told me that most Yamaha's come set up from the factory for a rider weight of 180 or less. This seems light to me. G.B.

The dealer was not very helpful in any way upon pickup
It was a task to just get the guy to show me how to start it.. LOL ... No kidding.
So making adjustments is probably out of there rage of expertise
Yes, with gear on I'm 200 lbs.
When the sled is sitting (without me) I can see the limiter strap with about 2 inches of free play, so it must be a lot more with me on it
How does this sound for first adjustment?
To increase more consistent steering:
Tighten limiter one hole
Take some transfer out ???
If that work and the steering is too heavy:
Decrease front shock preload

SRX Maine, I think you are headed in the right direction. Although, if you think the steering is too heavy after your above changes, decreasing the shock spring preload will not lighten up the steering. You will have to go back one hole on the limiter strap. Decreasing the spring preload is another way to reduce ski lift. Just remember small changes. I will be riding my Rage with a one hole limiter strap change this weekend and with everything else stock. If I still do not like the amount of ski lift I am getting, I will then adjust the weight transfer. The last thiing I want to adjust is the spring preload. I like how the front takes the bumps right now. Good luck. G.B.

Like Blue says, only make one adjustment at a time. That way you wont get "lost" with the set up. Hopefully you will be in an area that will allow you to do that.

First thing you may want to try is shimming the skis. Here is a link to get you started:

A lot of the questions asked have already been answered in the TY Tech pages. Sometimes it is easier to go there and look around. You will be surprised as to how much info you can find there.

Do what the DaJudge said, and Woody's Dually's will take out whatevers left after shimming the skis.

Well, I'm headed in the right direction.
I took the transfer rod from two lines from max (dealer setting) to the half way mark on the scale.
Increased the mono shock spring from #4 to #5 for preload
Decreased the from shock preload to almost zero with weight off them.
And now the sled has gone from unridable to almost perfect for my liking.
My only complaint is I still have too much rear bite. It may just be the 136 ripsaw is too good.
Next trip I'm going to play some more and shorten the limiter strap one hole to see if that loosen me up a little.
Thanks for all the help!
BTW, the sled jumps pretty good for a tank... LOL
