When the clutch weights get notches worn in them, how does this effect performance?

Does the sled lose power?

Could it vibrate?

Does anybody have a good set of 8ES weights for sale?

What it will definitely do is turn the sled into a belt eater......i.e., overcoming the effect of the grooves will lead to belt slippage and the accompanying heat and eventually you'll blow all the backing off of the belt. How do I know this you ask?............four belts last year and one this year before completely new weights.

The cause is running one speed continuously much like cruise control rather than varying throttle up and down......or so I've been told. At least that was my problem.

i just put a set in my daughters sled 05 vector, even in canada they where cheap to buy and the yamaha dealer loaded them up with the rivots. did you price them out? you may be surprized.

Do yourself a favor & get a set of 8FAs. Your choice to keep a light inside rivet or none at all. The extra width of the 8FA will outlast your originals by many times. It is 62.4 gms base if i recall correctly, so this will make room to bring down your rpm on the 3 holer. This weight is for the RXs series so the profile is low end torque ok. No, it is not because of your steady cruising, they almost all does that to some degree.... go figure.

That's interesting about the wider weights. I've had good luck with my Supertips. 3700 miles with no discernable wear at all. My Cat weights would always wear like that after 2000-4000 miles.

I too am curious about the grooves in clutch wieghts, 200 mi on my RX and they are grooved.

My 2nd set of stock Yami weights now have 3000 miles on them and they look like new. I'd betcha $100 Yamaha got a big batch of bad weights (bad heat treat job or ???) way back when and finally went through them all.

would the sled work as good with the 8FA weights?

Works good for me. These are 62.4 i believe which 9 gms heavier than the .... what is it ??? 8ESx... anycase, the orig one are fully loaded with rivets and then the G-120 need to be loaded some as it mature. So that's perfect fit, i even added some gms on the heel.

Does your sled feel responsive with the extra weight?

Does it work better than with the stock weights

Are the 8FA weights the same curve profile as the stock 8ES?

thanks

As responsive as 8ES when empty(no rivets) & +10 degrees in secondary.
Also, plenty of these on used market... 8ES, there all toasted. The profile is for 4 strokes. (RX-1)

What do you mean +10 degrees on secondary?

I came over from the doo camp and don't have much experience with these clutches.

thanks

dooboy600..

This is the secondary spring twist preload as follow:
(more degree = more preload)

...more; that will help prevent belt slipage at low end, that is heat build-up. That said, always feel the heat on your clutch. Before & after changes.
