XTX Break In

it will be leaner. I have the ultra q on mine and noticed it. you definately will. I was thinking of trying the CO adjustments as well.

If it were me, I'd break it in stock - hard - then install the exhaust and play with the CO levels or add a fuel programmer.

lotsa popping on decel. I think she's a little too lean. Sounds awesome under load, but drony around 40 - 60 mph. and the decel popping drives me nuts.
other than that, I like it!!

The tail of the 2 new 07 attak break in's. Both sleds bought new at the same dealer and both riders are the same weight.

Sled#1 0miles-100miles wide open runs on the lake well over 120mph on the dream meter

Sled#1 0miles-100miles By the yamaha book 100-300miles Motoman and yamaha still taking it easy but doing the odd short full speed runs

Resuts after 2000miles ....exact exact same top speed, the only diff he burns oil, I don't not a drop of oil is burnt and I now hold her wide open for long runs (10-20miles runs). he burns a half a quart every 500miles

So, the one you broke in hard or soft is the one thats burning the oil?

hard burns oil, by the book and motoman perfect no oil loss

great now I cant even start my sled in the garage :o| :o| :o|
man this is gonna be a long wait til winter!
What do you all think of change oil at 200 -250 miles instead of 500 miles? 500 miles seems like a long time with all that metal floating in your oil

Sure you can, just be sure to do a complete heat cycle where you let the engine come up to operating temperature then cool completely down to ambient before starting it again. It was actually a recommendation to do this when we got the RX-1's in '03. Might have been a bone they threw us since they knew we were going to start them anyway. Seems so long ago now.. The biggest danger in garage starting is not getting the engine up to temp and fouling plugs.

As for changing the oil, go for it, the 500 mile mark is just a recommended minimum, clean oil isn't going to hurt your engine. ;)!
