So i have been looking to purchase a Nytro RTX sled used, but im finding that there are many more XTX available for sale (at very reasonable prices, and low miles). Though the majority of the time i will be riding groomed trails. Im not totally opposed the XTX, but i dont want to sacrifice handling on the trails, and or speed on the lakes just because i can get a deal on an XTX. Anyone have experience with both sleds? I know the RTX's run about 95mph top speed... what about the XTX? Does the additional track length take some speed off the topend?

Also, whats popular out there (in Michigan area) the RTX or XTX, if the XTX would be easier to sell in the future than the RTX i could consider that a benefit of the XTX.

Any input would be great...Thanks!

XTX is quicker than a RTX due to the shallower approach angle. Top speed wise, about the same. My XTX will do about 104. Groomed trail, they handle pretty similar, since the track has the same footprint on the snow. RTX skid probably rides and works a little better. XTX skid has a lot of friction within itself.

I like my xtx a lot , aggressive trail rider here ,I don't have a problem with passing any sled on the trail. lots of good aftermarket parts out there too .

I haven't ridden an XTX so not truly apples to apples, but I did start out with a shorty and extended it to a 136. I wouldn't really say the sled lost any agility, but it is harder to throw the rear end around now. The sled also lost some "liveliness" on the trail (loose rear end, dancing around) which is a good thing, but sort of mutes some excitement. But, the sled has so much more traction on the trail it is not even funny (also went to a 1.5" track which helped in that arena). It is also a much smoother ride as it bridges the smaller dips and bumps. Off trail is much better too.

I'd buy an XTX If I could do it over again.

Have both-
The XTX is new this season but it handles pretty much the same to me for my style of riding, butt off the seat and a forward lean it runs corners just fine.
It hooks up better from a standing start.
I've had the 121 for a couple years and set up it's not really a big issue on rougher terrain as I slow down anyways. Had the 'lil one off trail in nice powder, staying top of it & on the happy flipper with no worries.
Few small trade offs but motor/ chassis set ups alike (exempt for hard parts). I like 'em both.

Go with the XTX. My 13 rides and handles great. Hooks up great and runs about 2mph faster than my friends shortie. Personally I also think they look better also.

I'd dont think I would consider buying another 121" ever again. I stretched my RTX to 136" and never looked back. Sometimes I wonder how a 144" would ride... Everyone has their own preferences and opinions about what their sled is supposed to do for them. I hope you like whatever you buy. Good luck.

How is the tall lug in the groomed trails...im assuming if its not hard packed, its not noticeable?
In really hard pack it does lose some traction. I only notice a little pushiness through corners in warm weather (25+ degrees) on sticky wet snow. 80% of the miles I put on are on groomed trail. The lugs are very straight as opposed to jagged which allows more sideways slide.

I would go with the short track if you are a mostly trail rider.

I have an rtx 2008, and just picked up a 2010 that was extended to a 136. I hated the 136 on tight trails, I already coverted it back to a 121.
The 136 made it handle like a boat, no swinging the rear around in corners. Also, it launched way worse with the 136 and I lost the ability to life the front skis. My 121 and my brothers 121 sleds both launch like animals. I dont think another sled has ever got the holeshot on me.

So far everything seems subjective... RTX riders love their RTX and XTX riders lover their XTX. Unfortunately, the 2 XTX models got away from me and have been sold. Most likely the RTX may be gone soon too. I have to travel for work, until Thursday... only thing helping me is that its been in the 40's and raining here, so may detour potential buyers (even me). Im also considering waiting a year and see what Nytro's pop up... or even entertain the idea of a '14-'15 Viper in the 129 or 137 varieties. Either way a 4 stroke 3 banger is in my future.

I picked up a XTX this year after having my RTX for 1 year, i have a 1.75 and hit top speed of 94.2MPH (GPS) on the 7 from Alanson to Mackinac. My buddy still has his RTX and we race dead even until about 70 where he starts pulling away. I have no complaints about the XTX compared to the RTX in corners and tight stuff because they almost feel the same to me. check out Mid-Michigan Snowmobile Swap on Facebook (assuming you are on facebook) and search for Yamaha, there are a few XTXs that are very fair priced on there now. I just about stole my XTX but was expecting to pay more than most of these are listed for.
