Has anyone tested the XTX in the mountains yet. Im having trouble deciding on an XTX or the MTX.
I was thinking the XTX with the 1.75 track. I will be riding out west this year.

I'm going to "mountianize" mine, when it gets here. I plan on swapping the track out to a 16" 144" 2". Swapping the ski bottoms to the mountian ski. Adding a mountian bar, left hand throttle, pivot riser, taller windshield, and ice scratchers.
Most likely will do something different for a tail light too. To allow room for my low profile gas rack set-up.
Some of this stuff I already have. Plan on selling the stock track to help off-set the cost of a new track.
I decided to stay with the 144" even though I ride 90% mountains. Been riding a 16" 136" the last few years, so a 144" is a long track to me!

Do you mind sharing some pictures of this low profile gas rack setup. I have been pulling my hair out trying to decide which route to go. I have even thought of having a custom aluminum tank built, but just cannot seem to find the right solution.

Thanks,

Kirk

My 144ized Nytro Fx worked well in the mountains so I expect the xtx to work better. The front end was the only drawback for me. It was wide when mated with the mountain skis. In hindsight I wish i would have offsetted the bushings on the skis to narrow down, would have been much easier to throw it on it's side. I guess gearing would be the other thing. Mine being geared more for topend then grunt effected it abit by being alittle harder on belts. Other then that it will be a fun sled.

Acording to a few guys I spoke to a 1.75 is the the only option for a track. A 2 inch wont work on the XTX with the stock skid.

How are you guys planing to get a 2 inch into the XTX. I would like the 2inch as an option.

I don't know why it wouldn't fit, 2 inch will fit on mine. Worst case scenario is you use smaller drivers like the mtx.

A 2.5 will work with smaller drivers and removing the stud guards, it just takes a little work and drivers. Its all in what you want to do. If it was my personal sled i would go 2.5 for a mountain application. A 1.75 will fit in a stock xtx though. A 2 will fit with stud guards removed. Lots of options but its up to the user in the end.

I should clarify that it's not so much a rack. It is a 3 sides of a square made out of 1" box aluminum tubing. It is rivited/bolted to the tunnel. Then I have a gas can that fits inside the "U" and is bungied down with the heavy duty black rubber bungie cords. The bungies hook through some holes drilled in the box tubing. The can has never came loose, even in some nasty ROUGH sh*t!
Nice thing about this set-up is when I'm not packing fuel, the bracket only sticks 1" above the tunnel. I also mounted a couple of studs on it, that my shovel blade attaches to. When I'm not packing fuel, I leave the shovel blade on it. Instead of in my pack.
I had it on the Viper, when the XTX comes in and I get it mounted I'll shoot some pics.
On a related note, does anyone know the part# for the exhaust turn out? I have been searching through the Yamaha catalog, but dont see it listed.

Here's the discription and part number for the turnout;
