Y.E.S. from ebay rather than your own dealer?

I have a 2007 Apex I bought in December 2007. My dealer offered me 24 months extended warranty (3 years total) for $550. Four-year Y.E.S. from him was about $750. I didn't buy it at the time, but now I'm looking at it.

I see dealers selling Y.E.S. on ebay for $500 or less for the 4-year plan.

Any observations about buying Y.E.S. from an unknown dealer off ebay, then later having to make a Y.E.S. warranty claim with your own dealer from whom you bought the sled? I realize that ANY Yamaha dealer is obligated to cover warranty issues, but I wonder about this because I know my dealer would and has gone to bat for me with Yamaha warranty people in the past and obtained warranty coverage that otherwise might be a marginal call. I guess I wonder if I buy Y.E.S. from someone else, to what extent he'd still go out of his way to help me out with some of those marginal issues. A good example is drive shaft bearings. Technically, it's a wear-item and non-warranty, but I see some guys with failures here that their dealer covered on warranty, and some that didn't.
Another example is the time my son collapsed his rear axle on a bad jump. My dealer convinced Yamaha to cover it on warranty and the basis of his argument was "this guy is a good Yamaha customer" and it took some effort on his part to get Yamaha to go along.

Guess I'm feeling a little disloyal about buying Y.E.S. fomr someone else. I know I've always paid a little more for sleds from my dealer than I could get from other dealers farther away, but over the last 20 years, the good will I've bought from him doing so has served me well. OTOH, with this extended warranty coverage issue, we're talking about a LOT of $$$ difference. And besides, I'm not certain, if I end up making a Y.E.S. warranty claim later, that my dealer would even know I didn't buy Y.E.S. from him. Usually, such warranty eligibility is just a matter of the service manager looking at a good customer and verifying coverage by logging on to Yamaha from his computer.

Observations? I realize this can vary from dealer to dealer, but I'm interested in others' observations and experiences.
 
my ? is if you bought your sleds there and paid the little extra for them. whats 200 dollars to stay in good with a dealer?

y.e.s contract prices are negoitable too i didnt know if you knew that. tell your salesmen that you can get it for less and see if he will match

Yeh, I'm aware they're negotiable. That's why some dealers can sell them so much cheaper on the internet....margin vs volume.

It's a good point about the $$ difference from a total dollar standpoint. It's the percentage difference that has me second guessing. Paying $200 more for a sled from him rather than a Twin Cities dealer is one thing. But paying 50% more...I'd have to make the drive.
