yamaha #2 in sales

Good point Mighty. We are definitely the underdog for some reason no matter what the figures are, and I enjoy that. It would be interesting to see some real figures though. I have spent quite a few years being faithful to #4 listening to all of the good natured jabs, and it would be nice to see my contibution start to pay off now that so many others are seeing the (blue) light.

Well I didnt have a Mach Z but I have had 2 revs and dont miss them a bit.
I was up in the air last season about a Mach ZX or Apex RTX for this year.
I was able to swindle a ride on the 05 Mach Z and was impressed with its lake capabilities but wasnt sure about trail riding it.
I never even got to sit on an Apex till the show in Toronto in March 05.
Funny as I was there with one of my workers , sat on the sled.
Then saw my dealer standing there talking to a rep and I got his attention and said SOLD.
Re then asked what was that about.,dealer said sold another Apex .

I believe that it is possible that Yamaha moved to #2 this past year. If that is true, it is an amazing accomplishment considering they did not really even offer (other then the old carry over 2 stroke Venom) an entry level sled. Yamaha goes into 2007 with a complete line-up. Go into the busy lodges and pitstops when you are riding and see what people are talking about. The mainstream consumer wants 4 strokes no matter what you might read on some Internet message board.

This weekend I was riding in the Black Hills of South Dakota (awesome riding right now) and when I stopped at Trailshead many people came up and asked me all about my Rage. When I opened the hood to show one of them the engine I had about 10 people come around looking at it and commenting how smooth it ran and how nice the whole package looked. They are tired of disposible engines that need to be re-built at 6000-7000 miles, adding oil everyday, smoke, noise, performance that degrades over time, fussy tuning, etc. If the other companies keep trying to push 2 strokes more and more will come to Yamaha. Everyone I talked to this weekend was very positive about 4 strokes and even if they were not, they would comment, well it's going to go to 4 strokes anyhow so I might as well get one.

I like it when I pass those Doo guys on the side of the trail-They look at my sled, laugh at me like my sled's 900 pounds and slow...then I hit the gas a little, just enough to make the skis go in the air a little, and they stop laughing.

I'll guess that Yamaha will be #1 in 2-3 years. It takes a while for the stubborn 2 stroke guys to finally give in. Cat might move to #3, the way that Polaris is going now. I don't think the Z1 will sell good, but the F8 and 1000 probably will. ;)!

Ive ALWAYS riden Yamaha, since the original
SL-351 , yeppers! then we had an SS-396, and a GP-643, and a GP-292. Even had one of the first SR-433 ( free air, not fan cooled ) Gees, I'm showing my age again!!

Yes and remember this guys, when you are scratching to make it out of the bottom of the food chain, you are very hungry and new ideas abound,no room to sit around and pat each other on the backs because you are to busy shooting for number 1 and after you get to number 1 it is easy to get soft and forget what it took for you to get there.. Right now i am liking yamaha again because they are not just sitting back on there fat #*$&@'s,they are busy thinking of new ways to improve our sport.

I have to go with Mighty on this - I've always liked the fact that every Tom, Dick, and Harry wasn't on a Yamaha - always set us apart from the rest - sort of like driving down the road and seeing alot of Chevy's and Ford's but only a few Cadillac's!!

Look at what Yamaha did to increase their sales,
Look what Polaris and Arctic Cat didn't do, and decreased their sales.

Full blown Polaris faithful (15+ yrs) ...converted.

Buying an '07 Attak. Putting a 1.6 Cat track on it.

Coming off an '05 SwitchBack 800 that rode like a school bus. Slow. Overheated. Electric Start failed. Mirrors continually failed. Crappy build quality.

Can't wait for next Season!

Give YAMAHA one more year then see who is on top :yam: :4STroke: Oh buy the way we already have the number 1 site out there :rocks: Thanks Tom!!

Originality is one of the main reasons I just bought an 06 RTX. Nothing in the current lineup looks like it and Yamaha turned it into a Nytro Look a like for 07 which will make it that much more appealing to me ;)!

Here are the facts for Canadian Retail Sales:

Yamaha sales have increased 64% in the last two years!

The Apex Mountain is well over 90% sold out.

Most Yamaha dealers in Canada have had a better sell through than the other brands in their area.

September 1, 2005 to December 31, 2005 Retail Sales (remember Canadian #'s):

Yamaha did attain #2 market share but BRP is still way ahead.

SkiDoo 50%
Yamaha 16.8%
Polaris 16.6%
Cat 16.6%

Yamaha's market share is way up from a low of under 10% not that long ago. Ski-Doo's climb has been mainly Polaris's loss. It's possible that the #2 position may not hold by season's end as the other two have huge inventories to clear (especially Polaris).

The top selling machine in Canada during this period was the new Tundra/Freestyle, followed by the Summit 800. # 3 was the Apex which put it as the top selling sport sled. Fourth was another Yamaha, the VK Professional. Interestingly the top selling Cat and Polaris models in this period were both non-currents.

Locally there have been a few Rev's which have recently been traded in for Yamaha's and a new Apex Mountain owner sold his 2004 RMK800 to come over.

For 2007 there are a fair number of Polaris riders asking about Yamaha's and lots of Doo rider's who are sick of engine problems (longer warranties only last so long and then the machine's reputation will hurt it's resale value).

That's information I have. If anyone has USA or total market numbers that would be interesting.

Very interesting. The scramble for #2, 3 and 4 positions are very close. I would also like to see some accurate information concerning US figures.
