I noticed a few things hanging out here at ty. Lots
of folks upset about things like hand warmers, and skis.
I have to say, just like many who come here looking for
info about yamahas, I was not sure if I wanted a yamaha
4 stroke after reading about all the problems...but I took
the leap anyway, and couldnt be happier. Having ridden
cats and doos the last 7 years...i can tell you alot of the
gripes are no big deal. So I though i'd post what I have found.
Hopefully it will help people that are on the fence about yamahas.

Skis...the stock yamaha skis are fine, but they do dart with
single runners..i found the cheapest fix is dually runners.
its a cheap fix that works...you dont need to buy after market
skis, but u can, my attak came with curve xs skis, I like them
alot..but they do dart abit too...they carve corners well though
good product
handwarmers...the stock hand warmers, dont work very good.
get yamaheaters, and u will melt your gloves..love em
ulmer clutch kit...worth the money..my 07 attak pulls away
from my buddies apex rtx by 6 sled lengths, and stays that far
ahead past 100 mph on the dream meter. I dont know if it
helps the top end, but the mid range is awesome..much better
than my stock 06 attak...ulmer stage 2 is the real deal.
studs...i am currently non studded..imo if u want to use studs
go to a one inch lug track, like the hacksaw, and stud the hell
out of it...the biggest mistake yamaha owners make is understudding
their machine, or studding tracks that have lugs over 1.25..more
front heat exchangers have been taken out from that...not the
best clearance there.
the only gripe I have with yamaha is their shock and spring
calibrations. But there are many after market companies here
at TY, that can fix that...just do some research.

I think too many of the complaints on here are not a big deal...and is just
fodder for yamaha haters to use on internet chat boards. Take it from
a cat/doo rider the last 7 years...i love my yamaha, and would
never go back to either of those companies. Yamaha makes
a quality product, that makes me smile everytime I ride it.
if u are on the fence like I was...just do it u wont regret it.
it does take a little time to get used to the engine breaking,
and the extra weight..but now I dont notice it at all..so
dont let any of that scare u off. Dont believe all the negative
stuff about yamahas that u see online..especially if it
comes from a doo rider...lol

I agree with ya too! I would not go back to my old brand either, The Yammy is just better built, and man the engine sounds soooooo sweet!

I just had to say something..i read so much negative stuff about yamaha sleds while researching what to buy..some of it is really nit picky stuff...some is just re-harshed bs. I'll gladly take a sled with bad hand warmers, and idler wheels...than one that constantly blows up. ( I replaced pistons in my last 3 ski-doos). My cat (07 crossfire 600) rode excellent..but I was constantly tightening bolts, broke the front arm on the skid, and blew two shocks out..plus at 10,000 miles I had the top end rebuilt..not cheap. Had enough of two strokes.

I just want to reassure the guys who lurk here, that if they buy a yamaha
4 stroke, once they are used to the added weight and engine braking, they won't look back..keep in mind I am a trail rider, and run trails, lakes, and forest service roads...I am not sure I'd recommend an apex/attack for ditch banger powder rider...but for the average trail rider...they are great sleds.

BTW my attack GT has 11,500 miles on it...and runs like a watch .

Thanks for giving some positives, it is human nature to find the negatives in things. Ya there are some things in these sleds that yamaha could have done better but like already said when you compare these sleds to some other ones they really do shine. I've had my Apex since 06 and i've added things to make it better like pilot skis, yamma heater, work to the mono skid, but really that's it for big stuff. Still love the sled and even when some of my non yamaha buddieds try it out they to are impressed by it. My only gripe with yamaha is I wish they were quicker to repond to issues people have with their product, like the front arm issue in the mono, should have been reinforced by the 08 model. The hand warmers should have been dealt with along time ago too, we know yamaha could do it. My viper used to roast my hands.I say all in all good job yamaha. Just lower the $ on the new ones.

What I like the best about yammi products is you can count on them to get you home. I certainly dont miss the smell of two stroke burnt oil.

That EXACTLY why a few weels ago, I traded my SKI-DON'T (seized motor right after the dealer supposedly fixed the cutout/bog issue)-MXZX 600sdi for my Apex RTX . Left me sitting on the trail for the last time. It wanted to eat belts every 600 miles (clutches aligned), $500 boyesen rage cages due to faulty delaminating OEM carb/reed boots, $80 oil pump shaft mod to keep it from wearing out and sticking open-using extra oil, cut-out/bog issues, acting like it was out of fuel at 1/4 tank, electrical glitch that wouldn't let it start one night. I did every preventative maintainence thing I could find about the Ski-Doo 600SDI and at 3,000 miles it still seized the pto piston less than a mile after leaving the dealership for service. I'll never buy another Ski-Doo, don't care how frickin light they are. I guess that light is good when you have to drag it out of a ditch and on to a trailer :jump:
