Ok the other day I was riding on hard packed snow and wore my sliders halfway down after 4 miles!!. My friend with a skidoo didnt even heat up his hyfax. I noticed that mine were very warm and the track clips were burning hot. The skidoo had all sorts of snow on the slide rails.

I was thinking it may be a good idea to cut out more holes in the track and install track clips. The Nytro only has clips ever other hole so i think it doesn't have enough holes to get snow in there.

Has anyone else tried this?

Ice scratchers are the ticket. I use ski scratchers on the skis and Slide Kicks cable scratchers ony rails. Best remedy ever made for burning slides IMHO.

Others run larger wheels to
Reduce pressure on the slides with success. Just some options.

i thought about doing that but it seems like more of a band aid then a fix. There are 3 other sled manufacturers that make sleds that don't burn hyfax up. I have been riding sleds for 18 years now and I have never changed a pair of hyfax till I bought my first Yamaha.

This summer i plan on getting the extrovert drivers, either changing the track out or putting clips in and cutting out more holes in the track, and getting bigger bogey wheels. I have all ready added Yamaha's stupid extra wheel kit and that did nothing.

A fully open windowed/clipped track isn't going to help all that much. As said before, scratchers will work, but larger idler wheels are the ticket.

If you have an older model sled and aren't happy with the rear suspension, get an aftermarket one. They seem to be much better on sliders than any of the Yamahas.

I would think that a fully clipped track would get more snow on the sliders though. I think if i do all of the above then that will help a bunch. I plan on keeping the sled one more year then going back to Cat.

Saw the 12 Cats this evening...certainly cool sleds. Fit and finish be damned...light weight and nimble handling are what gets you to the head of the pack.

What is your track tension?

Most have discovered on here that Yamaha's specs are way out of wack, try loosening your track off so you have over 1 to 1 1/2" inches of free sag in the lowest part.

You have this in the Apex section yet you talk about the Nytro.

You may want to have it moved to the Nytro forum and be more specific about which Nytro you have.
