Track clips again

The next question is why are the limiter straps all breaking on these 07 RTXs.
Could the shock rebound be set incorrectly? I am not sure of your particular setup (i.e. if you have rebound adjustment). If not, could it be that you have a bad shock?

Were there wear marks on the Rail Caps? If the clips were hitting the Rail Caps, there should be excessive wear on the Caps. Also, I believe you said the clips overheated once. At this point, I would replace them all and be done with it. Then set the track tension to spec, stay in the snow and I'll bet you won't have any more problems. Good Luck!

There isn't any adjustment for rebound and I typically have the main shock's compression cranked up fairly high also (it does have some affect on rebound also).

The rail caps look perfect and there is no sign at all of hitting. To me this still doesn't guarantee that the clips didn't hit, just that they don't hit regularly.

When I say overheated, I mean the hyfax overheated, some of the plastic got stuck to the clips and some of the clip tips looked to have slightly dug into the rubber on the PTO side of the track.

There were no serious signs of overheated that would tell me to change all of the clips. Definitely there weren't any signs that the clips might have heated enough to loose strength or anything and I don't think the clips themselves were weakened by the heat. The only thing that concerned me was that some of the clips on the left hand side (PTO side) showed signs of the clip tips digging in. The other thing to note is the right hand side of the track never did overheat (no melted hyfax stuck to the clips, nor any clip tips digging in) and the right side was missing almost as many clips.

After examining everything and considering all of the potential factors my best guess is:

- The track was running too loose
- The limiter straps broke due to inadequate rebound damping on the center shock (an issue that all 07 RTX's likely have in stock form; most, if not all 07 RTX owner I've spoken to with over 4000 miles on has broken their straps too)
- I was riding in very deep snow and this would push the approach portion of the track upwards at times
- All of these factors combined to allow the clips to lightly touch the rail caps and this rattling/vibration slightly opened up some of the clips on the leading edge of the clip
- Over the next X miles some of the loosest clips fell off.
- It is also possible that the slight overheat to the clips on the left side may have slightly loosened the clips and this may have contributed slightly (there is 1 extra clip missing on the left side vs the right side - not exactly a significant difference)

I'm hoping the following will fix it:
- Revalved shocks with much more rebound damping (new shock valve with more rebound resistance as well as a custom valve stack for the center and main shock)
- New limiter straps
- New track
- Oversized idler wheels in the front 4 locations (to make sure the hyfax doesn't overheat)
- Keeping the tension a little tighter, but still looser than spec (running anti-ratchet sprockets so it doesn't ratchet).
