Check out Richmotorsports.com...Yamaha Belt Change Tool

Product Code: YAM-BCT

$35.00

;)!

X2! This is what I have. http://www.richmotorsports.com/store/ya ... -tool.html
Does that lg. center bolt that you screw the plate onto, thread into the I.D. of the clutch or does it thread into jackshaft?

On the one I have from Rich Motorsports the large center bolt threads onto the jackshaft. It looks like the other designs shown in this thread also have a large center bolt threading into the jackshaft.

Don't waste your money unless it's for the wife. Simply put parking brake on and push and turn on the helix. Its that easy!
This is true! but even if its the wifes sled your doing anyway..haha .i just put a new belt on every season to be nice and new.i have maybe 8 used..keep it fresh :-o

Seems like a lot of parts. My tool is one part just like item C. sledjunk's pic.
All you need is a piece of pipe 1 1/2" ID ( a little bigger will work) about 1/2" long and a washer that covers the end of the pipe and 5/16" hole for the viper.
The thing to check is take the 2ndary bolt out ( 14mm ) wrench, remove the 2ndary washers( don't lose them ), put tool on and thread in clutch bolt. Make sure the bolt turns in about 3 turns(threads) before contact so you don't strip the end threads off. This is why the pipe is only 1/2" long.
Does not open the 2ndary 100%, but belt is still easy to get off.
Just made 2 a couple days ago. Tried them and will work fine even on the trail.
I tacked the washer to the pipe but it is really not necessary if you don't have a welder.
Same for Apex and Vector but the washer has a 9/16" hole to fit the aluminum 2ndary bolt.

Here is an old pic about 2006 of my 1st one. You don't need the clutch washer, then you can use a little longer pipe to open clutch further.

That will work, too. However, I prefer to leave the bolt holding the secondary torqued rather than taking a chance removing it on the trail and losing a washer or over torquing the aluminum bolt and getting stranded.

To each his own. ;)!

I thought the same thing regarding not wanting to remove and replace the large bolt out on the trail.

I really love the Yamaha Belt Change Tool from Richmotorsports.com.
Simple and reasonably priced

The Viper 2ndary does not use the large aluminum bolt. The Viper uses approx. 3/8" bolt ( it is approx. 10mm in metric ) with a 14mm head ( 14mm wrench ).
I just made a tool with a washer with a smaller hole. The tool on the right is for the Viper, the one one the left works on older Yamahas.
