I am considering a 136 ZX2 skid for my 05 RX1 and have some questions for expert x owners as this new skid is said to an evolution of the expert x. I have never ridden an expert x. The only aftermarket suspension I have ridden/ installed was an M-10 and I didn't like the weight transfer.
Things I like about my Mono skid--- ability to soak up the stutter bumps, the small bumps up to 10 inches this skid makes dissapear.
Ease of adjustment
Weight transfer and ease of adjustment of transfer
Things I don't like about my mono skid---duribility--nuff said
Ability to eat hyfax--yes I have added wheels. This is not really an issue in good snow condition but the hyfax get hot quick in low snow which is surprising since it holds a lot of snow. Uneven hyfax wear across the rail is also conserning
The mono over large rollers and sharp bumps bottoms easliy. I know this can be tempered with a revalve but is that at a cost of small bump ability? I have heard different opinions on who to do the work and how much it costs. I don't weigh enuf for a bigger spring
I ride groomed trails-- no boondocking-- and want a trail suspesion. Is this what the expertx is? how does it hold up? ease of adjustment?
Do I try this new skid? do I put the money into the mono? My skid will need a complete overhaul before next season including bushings and shock rebuilds.
All opinions welcome

Speaking for expertx and NOT zx2, expertx is super durable, VERY easy to adjust, transfer is crazy, it can lack a little in smaller bumps as the stock valving sucks.
As for zx2 being an evolution of expertx... nope. It is entirely different in every way. Thats not to say bad, just very very different.

Hi Stain,
the ZX-2 is the evolution of the Expert X lazybastard.
it is no because it as 2 arm on the ZX-2 and one on the Expert X that they did not came from the same apple tree !
The Expert X got one arm and a softness bar.
The ZX-2 as 2 arm but one with no shock .......
the Zx-2 is the evolution of the Expert X. they don't work exactly the same way but everything learn on the Expert X in the past 10 to 12 year is on the Zx-2. Every new patents, new ideas, new way of doing thing ... is in the ZX-2

Jeff,
I ride 50/50 on trail, off trail in Northern Ontario. Playing in the trees, river/lake runs, a little hill climbing when I can find it. I'm running a 03 RX-1 MNT 151 stock which would you recommend Expert X or ZX-2 regardless of price? I'm buying one of the skids because mine is trashed.

Hi Jigger,
I would recommend you the ZX-2. there is why :
1- The ZX-2 is the first suspension to give you a nice smooth ride without bottoming in the big ''G Bumps''. it will always support you. this is the best suspension for the trail.
2- Most if not all the mountain sled have no adjustement on transfert. they do that to save wheight. if you don't have the transfert adjustement. The suspension transfert to much in some condition and you end up with the nose of the sled up to the sky. sometime they almost flip backward in step hill. With the ZX-2 you always have that adjustement, this will permit your sled to take a set and work better most of the time in the mountain.
on top of this, you will save at least 15 to 18 lbs. with the ZX-2.
The G-FORCE shock is in the ZX-2. etc...
Let me know if you have any question,

Jigger,
Also, the Expert will hold alot of snow. I'm running 240hp so I have the extra power to move the sled no matter what it weighs. I to was considering the new zx2, but I was told by Jean to stick with my Expert due to the hp. The new ZX2 hasn't been tested at that level yet.
But I can also tell you that the approach angle on the Expert is great. My sled can be sunk up to its belly in snow, and all I have to do is give her alittle gas and up shes comes. That simple. That was on my 06 RTX. I'm putting that skid into my 07 Attak this summer. I personally, will never get rid of my Expert. I absolutely love that skid. You can turn the transfer down low or make it point to the sky.

I too have an 07 ATTAK. Bought it at the end of last season. Had an APEX before that with HYGEAR suspension. I put the heavier spring on the ATTAK but it still is not what I want it to be in the bumps. With the stock spring the rear end soaked up the studders like a REV, but the bigger G-outs still hurt. I am 235 without gear and ride aggressively and I cruise. Ultimately, I am looking for the best of everything to whatever degree I can find it. I realize it is not likely, but it would be my desire in a perfect world to have soft supple ride in the studders, not worry when hammering down a trail and big G-OUT pops out of no where, and still maitain weight transfer capability. I just today came across this new suspension and if I am going to go for it, I want to order before May 31 to take advantage of the savings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shane

I'm going to send my Shocks from my Expert to HyGear over the summer. They can fix me up so I don't rattle my teeth on the smaller bumps. The rebound is so fast, it's crazy. It bucks like a bull. On the bigger stuff, they all but go away. I should have just about the best of both worlds to a degree. It would be really hard for me to EVER part with my Expert. You simply can not hurt that skid. I do not baby it either. I keep her in shape. lol
I'm on the slides from a year ago. I've riden in low snow trails. Very little wear. I am replacing the rear tiny 6 1/2" rear wheels with 8" so I should get a little bit better track speed/ less resistance.
The expert is an awesome skid. Very durable, little maintance. Easy to adjust the shock angle with a speed wrench. Just get the stock shocks fixed.

STAIN,
If you get an Expert-X, send the shocks to Aaron @ Excell Motorsports and have them calibrated for you - BEFORE you install it. I'm not sure what valving the Zx2 offers O.T.B. but I do know from experience that the wrong valving will make or "break" a suspension - litterally. This is why I will be having the mono shock EC revalved on my Attak GT.

All,
The G-Force shock will be something new to you all, trust me. Aaron will not have seen this shock before you, so he won't have a valving right away.
Give him a month or so on a ZX2 though and he'll have a quick solution for the heavier riders.
