Several of the gyroplane folks have told me that getting even common parts has become a long-term project. Even though the CV19 mess has been around all year, the impact seems to just now be affecting inventories. Shipping slowed down a couple of months ago, but back-orders seem to be the new...
I am about to begin an engine rebuild and beginning to doubt the "identity" of my intended victim. The engine is marked 8HV-001475 and I was told it was from a FX-Nytro somewhere in the 2007-2011 range.
The head-scratch moment came when I removed the casing bolts. The inboard 4 bolts were...
Thanks and no...I haven't tried Barn of Parts. I am not familiar with the usual sources for Yamaha parts, since they are relatively new to the aviation industry. I am therefore thankful there is a forum such as this where I can ask my rookie questions until I get my bearings. I have already...
I finally got my gyroplane back in the air (it was indeed a head gasket), but the power just isn't where it should be and compression tests lead me to doubt the rings. Short term, I'll looking for another engine or long block for a 2008-2011 FX Nytro. I would consider a used engine with less...
It may well be the head gasket. I wish there was a way to be absolutely certain BEFORE replacement, as it is no small task. I have replaced 2 head gaskets in the past on this type gyroplane Yamaha implementation (not this specific machine). Removing the prop, reduction drive, rotor...
UPDATE:
I pressure-checked the cooling system and it doesn't leak. I am thinking that probably rules out a head gasket problem. Pulled the water pump. It is like new and the impeller is fine. What I have noticed is that the radiators aren't that hot, but the oil cooler and oil tank are...
Yes, it is pushing coolant into the overflow, then it sucks it back. Sometimes it overfills the overflow.
Neither the oil or coolant appear to be contaminated.
One odd thing....there remains pressure in the radiator even if the machine sits overnight.
Circulation is a definite problem. Oil cooler makes sense, and it is much hotter than it should be. Does it have moving parts, or should I focus on checking the water pump? Just FYI, this water pump has less than 10 hours on it.
Me again...that Yamaha-powered gyroplane guy. I'm having a bit of an overheating problem. My implementation is setup the same as several other gyroplanes we have that operate without issue, so I am confident of the plumbing. In the recent past, I have replaced the water pump (cracked...
Ok...so the 21 error is still winning. The wires are intact from the sensor to the computer, the resistance changes with heat, but we still have the error.
The obvious question seems to be, "At what resistance value does the code turn off?" For that matter, knowing the expected range of...
WE SOLVED IT (with your kind help).
The problem was indeed the TORS. Our overzealous builder eliminated some of the wiring that had been provided in the working model, thus causing the TORS problem. I strongly suspect that wire cutters are at the root of the 21 thermal error as well and that...
We typically put a 10 ohm resistor across the hand warmer leads to stop that error code. We use the speed sensor as a rotor tach to solve the "revving in neutral" issue. When the rotors are turning, it thinks we are moving....odds are we are moving. This engine install and related wire...
I've posted questions before and this forum has been very helpful. We build gyroplanes using Yamaha sled engines. Usually the FX Nytro and RS Nytro 3 cylinder engines. They work VERY well in aircraft.
This is a question regarding a 3 cylinder carburetor model that -probably- came from an RS...
