I had to heat the piss out of mine to get it to loosen. I have never seen one on so tight. I melted all the buttons when I did mine.
Maybe if you used a inductive heater it might work better. Those work really well and can be used in the future for other projects.
Springs do not usually take a "set" from siting, rather fatigue over time from use. It is the use of the spring that wears it out, not a compressed state.
